Date: 2008-12-22 Works great This works great. It installed quickly and easily, and works quietly in the background with no obvious lag in computer performance. I purchased it to replace McAfee, which was causing my computer to slow considerably, particularly when accessing the internet.
Date: 2008-12-21 Can you say SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW Have used Macafee for years - After Reading some reviews about some issues tried Norton ------ BIG MISTAKE! NORTON Internet 2009 is Horrible!
Slow Slow Slow -- Added to the fact it takes for ever to start my system because of how it loads up -
If you are consdiering Norton - Think again! I wish I had stayed with Macafee at least it did not take 3 Min to load up!
Have deleted and ordered Macafee to take my chances !
Date: 2008-12-20 The Wise King of internet security... I've been using Norton since the early nineties. Since then, I tried a few similar products, to check on what else was out there, just to end up coming back to this true knight of the Internet -- Norton Internet Security. It has served me extremely well over all these years and never let me down. This 2009 version is even sleeker and faster. I look forward to one more year of virus-free, headache-free Internet surfing with this personal body-guard at my side... There's one thing I would do without. Being on an automatic update mode, I miss the real advantage of having that small icon at the right bottom corner of my laptop, telling me "there are update packages available". Why should I be bothered, if I am in auto-update mode? The two times I chose to pursue this piece of advice, all I got was the message that my Norton product already had the most recent updates... All in all, a great product at a great price is how, in a nutshell, I would define this NIS 2009.
Date: 2008-12-18 Easy Install, works great! I purchased a Dell hybrid desktop and Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop for my daughter. I removed the pre-installed software McAfee and replaced the anti-virus on both computers with Norton Internet Security 2009 1User/3 PC's. The install on both the laptop and desk top was easy. The computer does not run any slower. I like the feature under the section internet "view home network" that allows you confirm that your wireless network is secure. I bought the Netgear N-Card Router. The router came with software that guided you through the setup/install. It literally took minutes. I consider my expertise to be average.
Date: 2008-12-16 not worth 0, not worth -39.99 I've always heard bad things about norton, but since amazon reviews are so glowing on this product, i took the leap.
I've a new computer running with expired trial version of nis, so i tried to uninstall it, everytime, after 10min of waiting, it comes out with the same error saying that i need to uninstall nis to fix the problem. and it direct me to customer service (internet). now my computer is naked and unprotected i'm not going to be on the internet to expose it further. and since i'm uninstalling it and failing, i can't uninstall it further. Deadlock.
so i decide to try to install the new version and success! but when i try to connect, i fail. I checked the network, it's on, my other computer is online. Even norton itself says the wireless broadband is on. just that NO program can get online, not even norton liveupdate or activation. and trying to set the firewall to allow custom program control doesn't seem to be working or fixing my problem.
So i logged onto my other computer to try to get some support. Naive as I am, the first place I looked is the FREE 24/7 customer support touted by the NIS box, which is a website. After going through all the support nonanswers, i filled out a detailed form to finally get a phone number to call plus priority ID. it hooked me up alright, and the CS rep extended her helping hand halfway around the world from philipines.
So i explained my problem again. She asked me a bunch of questions and tells me to call cable provider! Incredulous, i explained my problems yet again, emphasizing that this is NOT a problem of internet, but damned NIS not allowing me to connect.
So she asked me to try a bunch of useless things, rebooting, re-uninstall followed by rebooting etc, every activities of which took me minutes or 10s of minutes and i told her up front that I tried it and didn't work. She doesn't believe me of course. Finally she caught on that my previous version failed to install. So she asked me who installed it in the first place. I said HP manufacturer of the laptop. She breathed an audible sigh of relief, at which i asked: are you going to suggest that i call HP? In an authoritative voice with an accent, she suggested exactly this thing!
I lost it and told her my mind. This is the FK norton error of failing to uninstall, hardly HP's fault. So she relented and put me on hold and come back with another suggestion, reboot in safe mode.
Which i did, uninstalling after rebooting in safe mode result in another error message: you are booted in safe mode, please boot in normal mode before uninstalling. Deadlock #2
Then I said I want my refund. She asked me my name, my address, and I spelled them out repeatedly, she tells me they don't have the record. I told her i got it through amazon. it doesn't seem to register, she probably never heard of amazon. but being one that never gives up, she keeps asking me repeat different information, none of which I knew would lead to a correct refund to the correct person or a solution to my problem. Finally after 3 hours of repeating my problems, repeating my information, and enduring her sometimes indeciperable accent, all while my 2-year old screamed in my ear to get my attention, I gave up and hanged up.
In summary, don't touch this software, it's full of deadlocks and idiocies, big part of it written in india and china. Don't ever contact their CS rep, total waste of time. Just fire semantec and everyone in it. Just buy a standalone firewall and I used trendmacro before and was happy with it, I shouldn't have believed the other reviews and given this POS the time of day, my time is better spent playing with my kid.
