Can't Use It
This is not for the product, which I can't install, but for the lousy support--I'll never by another nuance/scansoft product again! I can't install the program because I want to put it on a computer that does not have an internet hook up. Hey, you guys at Nuance/Scansoft, Not Every Computer Has an Internet Hook-up! Once you own the product and go to the support site to activate it (on a different computer), THEN you see that you need the hook-up, but the product does not mention this little fact anywhere else. You only learn after you buy it.
I could talk to someone about this (for a charge!) I could e-mail customer support and get an answer (for a charge!) How about this: I already paid you guys for the product! Why should I then be charged again because I want to use it?
Companies like this do not believe they need to provide assistance to their customers. I only hope that people will stop buying their products and rewarding them for screwing us all over.

Rats this animal does not work with 64 bit Vista
My old reliable laptop was getting a tad long in the tooth. So when I placed Dragon Naturally Speaking on the system I found myself constantly waiting for it to catch-up. There was no room for expansion do I scraped up everything I had and purchased a new whiz-bang computer with 4 GB of ram. Now if I was thinking I could have told you that there is probably a 2 gig address limit. And it was time for a 64 bit system. I am use to 64 bit systems running 32 bit programs as long as there is not a kernel extension. Well to my amazement the first disk went in and started loading before I got the good news the animal is not supported and will not even load on a 64 bit system.

So now I am just using the built in speech recognition and test-to-speech. It is not as sophisticated but it works and is free.

64 bit problem
The first problem: I have a previous addition that I liked and then chose the upgrade for my new computer which has 64 bit, the upgrade can't be installed.
The second problem: I immediately asked to return it, it was authorised, but it's over 4 weeks since I returned it and no refund! NOT at all like Amazon.

dragon naturally speaking
This product is EXCELLENT. My life is manageabel due to being able to dictate exams, assessments, etc. My work has also improved dramatically due to my being able to say what I want to say without having to sit and type it all.

so far, so good
Given what I know and what I knew going in, this program has been great. I've been using it for about a month now. I'm using it to write this review.
It's not a cure-all for all typing issues, and I'm still learning, but so far, things have been good. New users should be prepared for a learning curve, and buying a comfortable headset has ended up being more important than I thought it would be. I'm also wondering if having a better microphone would make a difference. I may try to borrow one from someone and see if that helps.
Peace, faith, love, hope,
RB
