Works very well for me
While sympathizing with those of you who cannot get Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 to install, which is inexcusable for a company like Nuance and is clearly impacting many users, I've had pretty good experiences with installation and function.

When installing, backup your custom word lists and commands first, then uninstall the previous version. [...]

The biggest change from DNS 9.51 is the speed in which the recognition process works. It's at least 20% faster than the previous version in displaying the words on the screen. As for the accuracy being higher, I've only been using the product for about a month, but can already see a noticeable improvement in accuracy.

There are several things you can do to improve accuracy. First, you need to have a relatively speedy computer, especially if you are running Windows Vista (at least 2 GHz and at least 2 GB of RAM; on XP you can get away with slower hardware and less RAM). Second, invest in a quality microphone. The one that ships with DNS 10 preferred is okay, but just. Sennheiser, XTag, Samson, Plantronics, Shure, all make good microphones that work excellently with Dragon NaturallySpeaking -- and you will find many reviews and opinions on these microphones at the forum above. After purchasing a quality microphone, take the time and train your user profile selected readings and allow DNS to read some of your own writing. Finally, when dictating, try to emulate a newscaster and read in a relaxed and continuous tone. Accuracy is much better if you speak in lengthy phrases, rather than speaking single words one at a time. Dictating is not speaking and if you can master this last task, you will become a very effective DNS 10 user. For me, the hardest thing was thinking a sentence ahead (and I still have much room for improvement here).

Due to the well-documented installation issues, its complexities and peculiarities, I cannot give the program a five star rating. However, for me, DNS 10 is a "killer app" that I cannot work without and still have functional wrists.

Great program if you can install it or get technical support
I have been successfully using Dragon Naturally Speaking since about version 4. It has always been a great program. Until now. Version 10 simply doesn't install and Nuance doesn't supply adequate technical support. I purchased the program twice just in case I got a bad copy (unusual, but always possible). Both failed to install. I contacted customer service, no help there. To email tech support costs $10. The only tech support phone number I found on their web site was not toll free. Having to pay for the call I wasn't going to wait more than 30 minutes on my dime.

The on-line FAQ didn't address my problem and were not help. To put it simply, if you can get it to work, great. If you can't get it to install, send it back.

Poor installation process
This product works amazingly well, ONCE YOU GET IT INSTALLED.
Apparently this happens quite often. After several email and phone call attempts I finally received Nuance technical assistance. The technician was quick, accurate and efficient and offered no explanation, but seemed to have been through the problem many times before. Nuance needs to fix this installation routine and make it much easier to get free technical assistance for new customers. I hope I don't have another problem, as they warn that a second call will cost $$$$.

I purchased this through Amazon.com and received it within two days at a 10%/$20 discount. Nuance themselves had to place me on back-order, so I canceled my order with them. Nuance also had trouble understanding the term CANCEL.

here is the solution for all those who have had problems
do not purchase this product from Nuance!Knowbrainer is an independent certified reseller of this product and offers superb support. He cannot do anything about the 64-bit capabilities as yet. Please visit his web site and in particular I recommend the forums where you can read the ruminations of many of his customers. I have been utilizing his excellent advice for over eight years now. I am not connected with his company in anyway and it would be glad to verify that for the administrators of this web site if they would like to contact me.

Another failed upgrade for Nuance.
I have been using Dragon since about version 4. EVERY upgrade has been painful, and some just never work. I have version 9.5 running on Vista, and it seemed to be stable.

This version would not install. I actually got through to tech support - no mean feat - and they worked with me for more than an hour. But no luck.

Wait for 11 or 12...then go through the pain for significant returns - STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE.
