Partition Manager 9.0
The software shipped on time and performed as advertised. The instructions assume the user is familiar with file systems and the pros and cons of each. I would have liked to have seen a printed guide that could be studied before installing the software explaining the basic pros and cons of FAT vs NTFS and possible approaches to partitioning a disk, ie the number of partitions, and the size of the partitions. I found it necessary to go to outside sources for this information. Having said all that I would still buy the program again and would recommend it to others.

An excellent product, but not for novices
I ordered Partition Manager 9.0 Personal edition from Amazon after I bought a new computer with Vista OS. My trusty old Partition Magic 8.0, which I had used on a dozen different computers in the past does not work on Vista, so I bought one of several new partitioners that were advertised to be Vista compatible.

Partition Manager proved to be an excellent disk partitioner tool on Vista (32-bit), and it converted my 750 GB NTFS disk into 14 partitions of various sorts: NTFS, FAT32, Ext3, and Linux-Swap. The whole process took about an hour. It took that long only because HP had tagged along a separate second NTFS partition at the end of the disk to store their own stuff. (Rather irritating, but I certainly did not want to delete it.) That was a primary partition and could not have been left at the end of the disk, so it had to be moved, which took 80% of the time.

Partition Manager 9.0 Personal is easy to use, especially if you have used disk partitioners in the past and if you understand the basics (and many of the gotchas) of disk partitioning. Tools are easy to find, easy to configure, and stack viewer of all the changes is particularly nice before you activate the changes. Having said that, I should mention some negatives as well. Fortunately they are all quite minor. To begin with, the main start menu will give you 4 options to choose from. The top three are essentially useless if you like to take control of the details of what changes you want. Go to the fourth at the bottom. Unfortunately, the PDF manual I downloaded from the Paragon SW website devotes 60 pages to the top three, and only one single sentence to the last one, namely to the Partition Manager main engine. I guess Paragon expects only the experts to use the fourth option (I would not agree with that assessment if true) and they don't document it any better than on-line help, which you get by pressing function keys.

There are other minor issues as well. I purchased a boxed copy from Amazon, but it did not come with a manual. (Instead of a boxed copy, you can also do SW download from the Paragon site, but then you know that you are not getting a manual.) The initial installation had a minor glitch as well. After the installation and registration was completed, the program asked that the computer should be rebooted for the changes to take effect. But it did not tell me to take the CD out of the CD-player before booting. Then I got into their "boot from CD" mode when the computer restarted. This is certainly a nice feature when there is a problem with your PC, OS, or other software. But it is not the mode I would like to operate in when there is nothing wrong. After a few mis-steps, I figured out what was wrong, and I had to shut the PC down from Partition Manager CD-boot interface and restart it without the CD. At the end it all worked well however.

This product also comes with a boot manager, which I have not used, so I cannot comment on it. If you want to install two Windows OS, then this may be handy. If on the other hand, you want to install Linux along with a single Windows OS, then I recommend that you do not install the boot manager. Linux GRUB will install itself into MBR, and it will manage the Linux and the Windows booting both.

Overall, I very highly recommend this product if you are not a novice to disk partitioning tasks.

Excellent program
Had tried to change partition allocations with (for example Partition Magic (should be called Partition Tragic) to no avail. This program was easy to follow and worked perfectly. Very satisfied.

Excellent partition manager, quick, supports Vista 64 bit
Bought this after consulting with my local PC expert that I used to work with. He gave it high praise and now I can see why. Very efficient, lots of extra tools available for disk fixing. Overall, much better and better support for 64 bit OS's than Partition Magic.

Paragon Partition Manager 9.0
I've used Paragon's Partition Manager 9.0 two times since I got it and it worked flawlessly. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to partition any hard drive.
