Date: 2008-11-11 Does what it says... These little gizmos dramatically improve the sound and "feel" of the Rock Band drum set. With them, you can feel free to go crazy on the drums without drowning out everyone else with that hollow "coconut shell" sound the unsilenced drums make. And in the end, isn't going crazy on the drums what it's all about?
The one flaw of these guys is that is that it appears that they don't fit equally well on all drum sets. Certainly on mine, the pads don't fit nicely inside the plastic ring around the drum, or even inside the outer bezel on that ring - they're just about the same size as the plastic ring which means that the pads don't sit flat on the drums at the edges. I haven't found this to be a problem particularly, but it may mean that hits at the edges of the drums don't register as well as they could. Elsewhere, you can find instructions for removing the plastic ring before attaching the pads. I decided not to do this out of fear of breaking something, but your mileage may vary. From reading other comments online it seems that they do fit better on some versions of the drum set.
Date: 2008-10-27 Less sound = less sensitivity If you're looking for a cheap solution to the loud tappy taps on your Rock Band drum set then these pads are a decent solution. Be prepared to hit the drums a little harder though, these things definitely remove about 20% sensitivity.
Date: 2008-10-23 These work great! The drum silencers are very nice. They make your drums look better and they reduce the banging sound down by half. Super easy to put them on. So easy they didn't come with instructions, but pull the tape off the back and stick them.
Date: 2008-10-20 loss of sensitivity We have alot of trouble hitting all the notes when we use the pads. Our scores are noticeably worse than w/o the pads. If you're willing to score worse but be a bit quieter, then these might be for you.
Date: 2008-10-19 They do their job well By the way everyone was complaining about a decrease in roll sensitivity, I figured these to be thick and cumbersome. In actuality, they are very thin for silencers. By the way the material felt, I also assumed they wouldn't silence well, but they soften the pads considerable, and do their silencing job very nicely. The red and yellow rock band pads have been notorious for their bad rolls from the very start, but a little tape and a little pressure fixes that right up, plus the silencers over the tape makes for a killer combo. If you tape the pads just right before putting these on, they can actually INCREASE roll response. I can achieve a standard snare roll easily, and I don't even play real drums, so if you actually play drums, these will compliment your good technique immensely. Good for novices, great for experts, I definitely recommend these to anyone sick of loud and rigid pads.
