Date: 2008-07-28 Recycled As far as gameplay, graphics, and all that jazz; it's the same exact game as last year. Except for the presentation of it; also a few minor things done to the dynasty mode, it's virtually the same. Theirs a mascot challenge, which is just playing with the mascots...kinda dumb. Although within Dynasty mode recruiting is a little better. Safeties actually can tackle better, and some skill positions are faster. Also unless you look at the bench reps and speed, that oversized man child of a WR might be overlooked to become your next great TE. It just feels like you went online and got a downloadable update that's it. Plus to get the rosters this year it costs $25.00. It's not worth buying. Flat out.
Date: 2008-07-24 Some Changes from '08, Not for the Better Considering how little improvement EA Sports put into this years edition, you'd have to think that the PS2 is being phased out. Of course with this year's game, you have the roster updates, along with any changes in uniforms and helmets. There are some minor changes to the Campus Legend and Dynasty modes. The DB Cover position drill in the Campus Legend mode was changed for the worse. The view of the field zooms farther out but doesn't include the extreme sidelines. If the WR does a very shallow sideline route he goes out of view then suddenly reappears while you frantically try to get your DB over to cover him. It's harder to run the ball against the CPU, but easier to pass. The CPU defenders all play like All-Americans against the run, but mediocre against the pass. I also noticed more QB sacks even without playing the Campus Challenge pennant. Some of my team's more mediocre DE's and DT's play like Reggie White or Micheal Strahan clones. School rosters still max out at 70 players (I wanted to see it up to 75). Basically I'd say this years NCAA Football plays like last years Madden NFL game (lack of a ground game and poor pass blocking). Before you play a game go into the game settings and lower the penalties to at least 20% or you will be bombarded with penalties. I have been an avid fan of the PS2 NCAA Football series since the 2004 edition, but with the lack of effort by EA sports to really improve this years game I need to finally buy that PS3. In any case, if you're an avid fan of the series and don't mind spending the $40, then get it, it's not that bad. Otherwise, wait until the price lowers or get the '06 or '07 versions if you don't have them already.
Date: 2008-07-24 Decent game, but not much of change from 08 This is a decent game that does include a few more minor features than the previous edition. Whether or not those few extras make it worth buying is up to you. The commentators still get slip up now and then, and the actual gameplay and graphics are no different from 08. I would wait until the price comes down before making it a permanent part of my collection.
Date: 2008-07-22 Same 'ole, Same 'ole I have played nearly every NCAA fb game on the ps2 to date, and I've noticed that after a certain time, the game ceases to change. And it happened in 06. NCAA 06 was a great game and, to be frank, you're still playing that same game whether you have 07, 08, or even 09. Gameplay has changed so slightly over the past 3-4 years with the ps2 version, that I tell anyone and everyone who has a love for college football and has only a ps2... QUIT BUYING THE NEWEST VERSION. You're completely screwing yourself over by tossing away 40 bucks a year to get one or two new features and an "updated" roster. Inevitably, it's the same case for all the sport games on the ps2, the newest versions give you nary a thing that's new. As a frustrated ps2 owner, I can tell you all with confidence, STAY AWAY FROM THIS GAME and all the newest versions of any sport game on old gen systems. You'll be glad you did.
Date: 2008-07-17 Replica of NCAA FB 08 So I bought this game thinking that some of the online gameplay features would be improved (repeated roughing the passer penalties, repeated chord glitching from opponents resulting in automatic losses). I was thoroughly disappointed. The gameplay is identical to that of NCAA FB 08. I haven't tried any of the other game modes, so I cannot comment on those. However, if you want to buy this game for its online gameplay option, I would strongly discourage it. Looks like I've wasted $40.
