If you own an earlier version of TW skip this one.
If you have played any of the previous Tiger Woods games your first impression of '09 is that it is a stripped down version of earlier games in the series. All the modes from the previous games have been replaced with three simplistic game modes:
EA Sports Cup is a sort of character development stage where you accept the challenges the game offers and raise the stats of your golfer.
PGA Tour is the golf season which has all the events and holiday events. After you've built your character in the Sports Cup bring him or her onto the PGA tour and compete against the top pros.
Play Now is exactly what it says "play now" choose your golfer, the type of event (stroke, skins, match.etc...) choose your course, and compete.
Once you do begin play you'll notice the replacement in the announcer's booth...and this new team is dry and bland...no fun, thrills, or chemistry to be had here. The click controls on the analog swing is another change in the game...and while it does take some time to get use to...overall it is very good. The simplistic way to learn the swing is use your left thumb stick to control the line and distance and press (x) to initiate spin on the ball...like I mentioned earlier it is rather difficult to get use to...so learn the click controls first. The next difference you'll notice is the poor graphics...I know this is a PS2 release but I've seen better graphics on games released 4 yrs ago...there is no excuse for that. There is a pro shop where you can purchase enhanced gear for your golfer, but they don't really offer any advantages and seem more like esthetics than anything else...and the character animation is as tired as the series.
Without much improvement from last year's title...no on-line play...and tired graphics...there really isn't enough here to warrant a purchase if you own any of the previous titles. The good news? The game is priced right for what EA is offering...a watered down version of its TW series.

Ny boys love this game and play it all the time. They make their own players and play against each other.

Golf Game
Great game, fast delivery. However buyer beware from purchasing from Amazon. After this purchase my credit card number was stolen and used to purchase a $2800 airline ticket. Needless to say Amazon couldn't have cared less. NEVER leave your credit card number on their site!!!!

Not as good of a new version as I'd like, program bugs too.
Hate to say it, but I'm not as happy with the newest version of Tiger Woods golf as I have been with the previous year's versions. There are fewer game choices in the "play now" secton of the game, there is no Tiger Woods Challenge area, and we have encountered a few different program bugs, or errors. Clubs keep re-arranging themselves between playing sessions, along with other settings not changed by the user. Also, when playing in the "play now" section, even though two different golfers are selected, the game will begin with the same person playing in both roles. Very disappointing and makes for less fun to have to back completely out of the game after this happens and re-boot to eliminate the problem.
With that said, I do like the expanded choice in courses (without having to unlock them as you gain experience), and the faster response time between holes as you play.
