Corel Ulead VideoStudio 11.5 Plus [OLD VERSION] Review (continued)

Date: 2008-09-16 steep learning curve I have used the product for over a month now and still find the learning curve steep; I am still unable to make a DVD that will play on my TV DVD player. The 168 page book is informative but at times adds to the confusion in that the topics may be in several places on one subject. The on-line support has not been helpful. Many option tabs have no explanation as to when to use. Very frustrating program and cannot recommend it.
Date: 2008-09-14 Good Software This is great software. It takes a little playing with to do anything major, but if you want to do simple editing it's easy.
Date: 2008-09-11 Beware of tech support policies! We purchased this software mainly to create a slideshow with music. The program offers a lot of options...this aspect will not disappoint. The choices are endless! We did run into a problem when using the automatic color correction feature. It affected our transitions and pan and zoom. Once the correction was removed from the photos, the features then worked fine. The problem we ran into is tech support. Don't plan on getting any free help to get you up and going. Free support only covers install problems. If you have any application questions they charge $15 per call. I did use the free email service but it takes 24-48 hours to get a response and they never seemed to really understand my question (1 way conversation!) I know it is not just Corel doing this now...but it would be nice if you could get limited (say 30 days) free support to get up and running. It would have saved us money and much frustation to be able to communicate with a tech rep regarding a few problems and questions. By the way, the price is great...they want $90 on the Corel website for the same product. Our DVD slideshow eventually turned out great and we are excited to do more projects.
Date: 2008-09-09 Great Value - Works well with AVCHD Purchased to edit AVCHD recordings from Canon HF100. Easily pulls in the m2ts files generated from the camera and Canon software.
The Smart Proxy idea seems to really work. You load your high def footage in, open up the Smart Proxy Manager, wait to edit until it is done converting all of your footage.
The overall editing experience is very enjoyable, almost FUN! This is my first attempt serious camera/editing, so I'm no professional. Very easy to record your voice, add music, cut clips, alter playback speed, add Video filters, etc.
I have had the program "crash" a few times now...once when it was left open for an hour, twice when closing (doesn't ask if I want to save, crashes, but recovers the file when reopened)
All of the export options are great, able to upload good looking video to youtube and Vimeo. [...] (make sure to watch in High Quality by clicking link in lower right corner of video screen)
Date: 2008-09-08 Excellent Video Editor for the Buck This is an excellent video editor for the money you pay. If you are planning to just gather together your home videos into nice-to-watch stories, this is a great piece of software to do so. Very nice effects and transitions are also available, albeit not as good as you'll find in other video editors available on this price range.
