Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1 Upgrade Review (continued)
More User Submitted Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1 Upgrade Reviews
Date: 2008-12-09 The End of an Era Microsoft has always produced innovative, yet faulty, products and has counted on their novelty and their market share to pull them through. This product is the proverbial last straw. Microsoft so consumed the innovative presence in the market with takeovers, intentional crashes of non-microsoft applications and patent infringements, that they are now left to innovate on their own as a business. If this is the end result, the era of Microsoft as the OS leader is over.
As others have said the interface has significantly changed thereby altering the general "recognition/usability" of the interface. As many clay feet users have not made the switch, I recommend that you don't. I'm not having major problems adapting, however I now am forced to use multple versions of Microsoft OS depending on where I'm interfacing: work, home, library etc. After a while it becomes annoying trying to remember which ap is where in which OS. Besides, The product is a cow( slow and fat) and is prone to crashes.
The packaging should come with a poison label on it and the Surgeon General should place a Warning Label expressing their concern for the mental health of those who use it.
Date: 2008-12-08 WISH I NEVER WOULD HAVE UPRADED We purchased a new PC and upgraded to Windows Vista Home Premium. I wish we could have gone back in time and stuck with Windows XP. We have had nothing but problems with this operating system. So many programs are still not compatible with Vista, it is very sluggish and our system crashes all the time. Upgrading to Windows Vista was the worst decision I ever made.
Date: 2008-12-04 Gonna make this short...but not sweet Vista is the worst windows ever made. Pros: More aesthetically pleasing Side bar is a nice addition
Cons: Periodic crashes Uses up A LOT more RAM to run Asks permission for EVERYTHING..which is very annoying Occasional internet browsing problems Software glitches
My suggestion is if you already have XP thank god that you did not upgrade. I have been regretting it every day of my life....just wait out until the next version of Windows. Perhaps by then Microsoft have figured out what that heck their problem is and work off the more stable XP platform.
Date: 2008-12-03 Beautiful looking, but... I've owned a VISTA for over a year now and it has served me well, I guess. It's not a bad format for computer, and certainly is worth it if you want the newest thing out. But for some people like me, XP is better. Here's what I like and dislike about it:
LIKE:
-Pretty Looking
-Icons look cool
-Windows sidebar serves some good use
-The window changer is pretty cool and worth using
-Start menu looks nice, especially with the search form.
DISLIKE:
-Like Adam mentioned, Why must there be a window asking if we allow something to be installed everytime we install something?
-It might just be my Toshiba laptop, but Windows Media Player gets weird sometimes
-Itunes takes FOREVER to launch
-Things keep not responding
-Microsoft SAM is gone, WTH????
-Again, like Adam said, the games are terribly remade, and PINBALL IS MISSING!!!!
-THe search bar doesn't go away sometimes
So if you are looking for the newest thing out, do buy this, but keep this review in mind. You might just want to stick to XP instead.
Date: 2008-12-02 Looks nice, but just not worth it. After upgrading my system from Windows XP SP3 to Windows Vista SP1, it didn't take long for me to realize I wished I hadn't bothered. My system takes twice as long to boot-up, and my programs take longer to load. Turning off Aero speeds things up a bit, but Aero is the one thing about Vista I really like. It's not my system either. I have a fast Intel Penryn Processor, and 3GB's of RAM. I'll admit that the upgrade was painless for me, and not nearly the nightmare that some users experienced. I also have no major issues with it. The problem is, everything that Vista and XP can do, XP does it better and faster. Without all the eye candy turned on, you'd think that XP was an upgrade to Vista. I'm currently beta testing Vista SP2 which should be released Q1, 2009. It seems to be slightly faster, but no major improvements. IMO wait for "Windows 7", and hope Microsoft gets it right.
