Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection Review (continued)

Date: 2008-09-09 Good buy, but a little disappointing. Not the greatest bundle in the world, but still a good one. Although it comes with all-new packaging, the booklets inside are colorless, and the box holding the set is wobbly and thin when you take the cases out.
This package includes the original Metal Gear Solid for PSone, MSG2: Substance, and MGS3: Subsistence minus the second disc that came in the original Subsistence release. Although the online features for MGS3: Subsistence are no longer available, the second disc still had many good off-line features. This was a major let-down for me, as well as no Snake vs Monkey. They basically pressed a bunch more disc-ones from Subsistence to put in this bundle. Other than that, the games are great, as they always have been, and this is a good buy if you're missing them from your collection. MGS1 is now hard to find, and the other two, when bought individually, would cost around $30 or more in total.
Date: 2008-08-24 Great Pack Now with MGS 4, having this is a must have, if you haven't played them before you can get all 3 games at a cheap price, just like DMC series. Even if you just want to have them for your collection.
Date: 2008-08-17 Brings back old memories This is the best collection series you can buy for the price of one, because these games are hard to find anywhere else. The collection features: MGS 1, MGS 2 Sons of Liberty, MGS 3 Snake Eater, in which MGS 1 & 2 have Substance part of the game.
Date: 2008-08-14 Great way to find out storyline I've been reading all of the reviews posted here, and there seems to be a lot of complaints regarding not having the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 disc. I understand that all of you die hard gamers out there were seeking this as part of the bundle; however, I would like to know if you are such hard core fans then why don't you have a copy of the originals already? I purchased this set as a means to understand what's going on in MGS4, since I already had the PS3 Metal Gear Bundle.
I believe that for those like me who want to understand the storyline a little better and get caught up this is a great bargain. Sure there are always going to be complaints, but for the price you really can't beat this. I was going to have to buy and find all of these games separately anyways, since I had never played the series until MGS4... so I was very happy that they boxed them in a set and priced it at $29.99 (not to mention free shipping on Amazon).
If you guys have spent a lot of time playing Metal Gear Solid 4, then going retro back into the 80's is probably going to seem a bit primative anyways. Reminds me of the old NES Contra days lol. I think that the first Metal Gear Solid included is as retro as I'm willing to get in this series because of the drastic changes in cinematics and graphics. Overall, I recommend this set.
Date: 2008-08-06 3 Games, for the price of one? Yup! The first 3 Metal Gear Solid games in one package for $30 - and you can buy these 3 separately for 20 each! Not to mention the MGS2 here is SUBSTANCE which is a very rare find for the PS2 - I've tried looking for it on eBay and people would still spend around $40 to buy it used...well I got Substance in a 3-pack for $30 TOTAL! You'll also get MGS1 still the PS version with 2 discs (unchanged from the original game), and MGS3 "Subsistence" without disc 2 (the only downside) but it's still worth it all even if you're just missing one of these games. I was just missing MGS3, and wanted MGS2 Substance, and I'm happy with my purchase!
