Great Game Especially for price.
If you like action adventure puzzles you will love this game. I have no complaints. Just make sure you have a good computer to play this game and you can use a ps2 or ps3 or xbox or gamepad on this game.

It continues off of Tomb Raider Legend So make sure you're familiar with the previous plot.

Plus this is a great buy for the price. The only let down is that you have to use the disc to play the game all the time.

Don't bother, unless...
Don't bother with this one, unless you have something a far cry better than a 2.x Ghz Celeron, and an Intel graphics card. They both stink, for this purpose.

I am a HUGE fan, of Tomb Raider. I got 'Underworld' after reading a review stating that it was being played on a Dell Inspiron 1520 (I have a 1525). I MISSED the part that states one must have an XBOX controller.

In addition, the video is jerky, though I have it set to the 640x480 setting, disabled video-intensive stuff, decreased the texturing, and did what else, I could think of.

Lara is uncontrollable, from the keyboard. Don't bother trying. Tap the arrow key, she turns nearly full circle. It is impossible to point her in a specific direction, unless she is running. Further, the arrow keys are unpredictable --as are the WASD keys, that are used. They might do, ANYTHING.

The one thing that works, well, is the mouse. Camera pointing, works. That, is all.

I think that's it, for Tomb Raider, as far as I am concerned. I couldn't even navigate her through her burning house. What a total disappointment.

Not anymore...
The tomb raider franchise used to be great games, but not anymore. This game really has the feel of a company milking their cash cow for the last time. It's VERY buggy even though it's been out for quite a while. Apparently a last ditch game doesn't warrent a patch for the multitude of bugs that it has. The controls are extremely inconsistent in the PC version. They are completely wrong in the documentation, don't even bother with it. Directional controls depend on your view and it's anyones guess what a particular control is going to do from a particular angle. Saves actually save some semblance of your game progress about 90 percent of the time. Other times they do nothing and your progress is lost. It's just shoddy and the controls and camera control are outdated. Most games are much better than this now.

Upsides: Yes there are a few... Hey it's tomb raider so it's got a decent storyline. The graphics are decent. It's a pretty good looking game. If they would have put the time into the controls that went into the graphics, it might be worthwhile. I've never left a TR game unfinished, but this is a frustrating mess and I'd advise you to pass on Underworld.

Absolutely Amazing. One of the best games I've played in a long time
I've never played a Tomb Raider game. As I'm mostly addicted to FPS and certain RPG games, these never quite grabbed me. But I recently purchased this game (crazy cheap I might add), and decided to try and get through it. Well OMG this game totally rocks.

Instead of repeat what mostly everyone has said here, I'll just summarize my views briefly.

Pros:

Story, scenery, visuals & artwork, and the art direction were absolutely amazing and almost unprecedented in most games I've ever played (hundreds I might add). This felt like a sweeping scifi/adventure/fantasy movie most of the time, and a good one at that.

Voice acting was just flawless. The person who voiced Lara just nailed it...big time. Just perfect, and the rest of the voices were as good.

Gameplay, puzzles, and linearity are also really really awesome. There are many ways to accomplish the same task in many case, in some there is only one way. But the combination is pretty well balanced. Some of the puzzles are truly mind numbing. I relied heavily on Stella at [...] though when I was stumped, which happened occasionally.

The save system works pretty well. The autosaves/checkpoints are really tightly woven into the story. Most are where I would have saved anyway. There is a nice little bell ring whenever you get to an autosave/checkpoint that lets you know where you are.... a very nice touch. The manual save system is pretty useless, but I found that the autosave system works well enough. As always, there are some annoying places where you had to repeat 9 million times where it could have used an autosave, but I only found a half dozen here and there, so not really that bad.

Stability and software quality was just fantastic. No crashes, no hangs, nothing. You can even Alt-Tab out and come back in and the software is smart enough to have you at the pause page... really really nice.

Cons:

The controls are definitely painful sometimes. This was one of only 2 things that made me mad playing this game. They are inconsistent.... you can be in the exact same spot, repeating a checkpoint, and for example, the W makes you lean forward one time, and backward another time, etc. You find yourself jumping into the abyss, when you think you are climbing. Really annoying.

The grapple hook is the most frustrating mechanism as it almost never worked as intended. Sometimes I had to repeat 30 times just to get it to behave as I think the devs had intended.

3rd person view... BLAH. Now I know this is a Lara Croft game, and watching her various body parts jiggle is supposed to be part of the game. But the camera just gets CRAZY sometimes.... its murder on the eyes. The classic is the chimney jump where you basically have zero idea where you are, you just push buttons and see what happens. I can deal with 3rd person sometimes, and it was 80% good in this game, but 10% was annoying and the other 10% was horrible.

I would dock the game a whole point for these cons, but the pros are so amazing and wonderful, I just didn't care that much. I've never played a perfect game (Fallout 3 was maybe close), so I learn to take the handicaps in stride.

In conclusion, if you've never tried a Tomb Raider game, this one is truly amazing and astounding. My hat goes off the the production, art and software development teams. This is about as close as software comes to a work of art
