Assassin's Creed: Director's Cut Edition Review (continued)

Date: 2010-05-03 A well deserved Platinum Hit Once you start playing the game you know why it is a platinum hit and let to the making of Assassin's creed 2. I actually played the second game before buying this one. Although the game lacks any form of multiplayer capability, which lets down on group entertainment, it is still excellent for those looking at serious single player gaming. This game is all about getting involved with the character and following the story and historic timeline. However, one can say that the game is showing its age and there are better graphics and improved gameplay in the second game. There is also not much significant link between the first and the second game, so if you just play the second game you don't lose on anything. That is the main purpose why I bought this game. Unfortunately however, the disc was corrupt and the game is stuck midway in the storyline, because the game was used, even though i bought a 'like-new' condition from amazon. It was disappointing, but since I didn't pay too much for it, i'm not really all that bothered.
Date: 2010-04-27 Worst Ending Ever! The ending all ties up in Assassins Creed 2, But it's a tough pill to swallow after beating this one. The gameplay is very fun, graphics are great, & story is cool and engaging.... Except for the ending.... (focus) Ok, Battles are fast paced, challenging and fun & there are consequences for your actions. When you attract too much attention to yourself the authorities will be alerted & battle you. The open world design of this game does get a little annoying at times because it is a HUGE map. I loved this game and couldn't put it down, However I recommended this game to 2 friends and they HATED it, but for the price it's at now, it's well worth the gamble. & if you play it to the end, YOU HAVE TO PLAY ASSASSINS CREED 2. If not this terrible ending will have been for nothing.
Date: 2010-04-24 Repetition. Repetition Do you like collecting hundreds of hidden items for no reason other than to brag (without the help of trophies) to you friends? Buy this game. Do you enjoy only having 3-4 different types of missions that you can repeat over and over again with no increase in difficulty or challenge? Then do I have a game for you. Do you enjoy searching for and climbing towers only to jump back down? This game is for you! You can do this activity about 50 different times throughout different cities. Do you enjoy having NPCs solicit you for spare change? Fantastic!! Any time you walk anywhere you have women following you around telling you they are sick and need money.
Realistically, though, this game takes the first hour of gameplay and repeats it seven or eight times. I only made it through because I was expecting to find something neat or new. I guess I was wrong. While this game certainly has some interesting game mechanics, you can really get away without using most of them.
Date: 2010-04-22 The climax was a letdown... Everything you heard about this game is probably true - it's repetitive as hell but I found some comfort in that and had fun exploring the cities, saving citizens and scaling every tower to discover all the available missions etc. The voice acting and sound in general are dismal but the the overall environment is pretty realistic and impressive. The thing that bothers me though is what a letdown the final chapters of the game are: throughout the game you get the idea that being stealthy is the way to go but the final encounters are just 'ol fashioned button-smashing, hacking and slashing. I'm not sure what would have become of me if I didn't have that maxed out life bar. Damn. Then, after you beat the game you're treated to one of the most abrupt, puzzling ending ever. You're left with the feeling that you're missing something b/c the game resumes after the credits but leaves you without any real closure. Now, some folks may defend the ending saying that it sets the stage for a second game but isn't that a little presumptuous? How did the developers know this game would be successful enough to warrant a sequel? (<--Which wasn't released until two years later.) Besides, considering the money we pay for these games, aren't we entitled to a complete story?
Date: 2010-04-21 Fun game at first, but gets old real quick. The first 2-3 hours of gameplay are great, jumping from building to building, riding a horse through open fields, hiding from soldiers, etc. Then you realize the major flaw of the game: repetition. You do the exact same thing city after city after city, which gets old really quick. It actually becomes very tedious towards the end, making it feel more like a chore then a game. I'm guessing most high reviews for this game were written by people after only a few hours of playing...I doubt they would leave the same reviews now. Its obvious this title was rushed because it was a launch title for the PS3. The developers spent more time on the visuals then they did the actual content of the game. I recommend renting this game for a week, not buying it.
