Playstation 2 Rock Band Special Edition Review (continued)

Date: 2008-09-10 Loving the Rock Band This is an awesome game. Especially when blown up huge on a big screen or projected on a white screen. This is not the online fully interactive fun version for all the later systems but it is compatible (hardware at least) with PS3 so when new system gets here I only have to buy the game. The game play is very similar but there are no characters or clothing buying or anything else just straight playing the songs. To me this is a lot more fun to practice on before going to play a different system with all the functions available. Definitely worth it if you only have access to a legacy system or a WII.
Date: 2008-09-01 Rock Band Special Edition Rocks!! the game is very fun and exciting. every level is like a whole new game. the notes get faster and harder to get. The microphone was very fun to play with. the drums and guitar are fun and help you with your reaction timing. when i got the game, i thought i would play it for a day and then get bored of it. but when i started playing it, i got hooked and now i cant get off it. the accesories come in very good condition.
Date: 2008-08-31 Rock Band SE - A Great Reason to Keep Your PS2 Rock Band Special Edition Playstation 2 is a great game with a great set of instruments. This is probably one of the biggest reasons to keep your PS2. Even though I've finally moved up to the PS3, I didn't hesitate to get this as a gift for somebody after playing this version. Now I think this game alone may be worth setting it up full time to play Rock Band on the PS2 and keep my PS3 free for other things.
For starters, the game itself is bound to be compared to Guitar Hero (Game Only). While Guitar Hero World Tour - Band Kit tries to duplicate the band experience, Rock Band is still the best game for multiplayer music gaming. Not to mention the price of the set and the PS2 console make this a much better value. And you can use your RB instruments with other games, even though the makers of Guitar Hero have gone out of their way to make their components incompatible. The bottom line, Guitar Hero is still the premier game for single player gaming, but Rock Band is a much better multi-player and party game.
As I said before, the PS2 is obviously still less expensive than other game systems. Setting one up for Rock Band alone saves electricity and will add to your PS3 or XBox360's lifespan. In fact you can keep this set up all the time for when people come over and it's one less thing to set up. So for convenience, the PS2 version is almost better in a way as long as you've got the room to keep it permanently set up.
The instruments are somewhat light, though the drum set definitely feels the sturdiest. Still all the instruments are great quality and are cross compatible with other games, which is a much appreciated extra.
Now with the versions for the Xbox 360 Console and the Playstation 3 you do get some extra capabilities. Those include additional modes, some online options and the ability to download additional content. Still, all the extras are nice but when you have company over they seem to matter less. The PS2 version has more than enough songs on it to kill plenty of time.
There is one thing to keep in mind, which is according to some reports there are some older PS2 models that can't play the dual layer disk without an update. I don't know the status of this first hand because I have a newer PS model. But definitely do your research before you invest in this set. Borrow the disk for a test run to make sure that your system can load it.
And of course, as with all PS2 games you have to have that annoying PlayStation 2 Memory Card (8MB) to really play, especially if you want to save your games. It's ridiculous they are still charging so much for those cards, but that's the price you have to pay to use the cheaper console.
As long as you've got your bases covered, this is a great game and well worth the price. Definitely recommended.
Enjoy!
Date: 2008-08-25 Rock Band Special Edition PS2 I've played Rock band before and i love it. This time i ordered it my Playstaion didn't work so i was unable to play it. But Rock Band is an excellent game!
Date: 2008-08-24 Need Help Can anyone tell me, if this will play on Model #: SCPH-70012, purchase in Dec. 2004?
My daughter played it at a friends and loved it, and I would like to now get it for her birthday. However, I am on a limited budget, so I need to find out it will play in her PS2 first, so I don't lose $100+.
Thanks In Advance for anyone that can shed some light on this matter.
