The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition Review
User Submitted The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition Reviews
Date: 2010-03-07 Good RPG Very good RPG. I prefer more action in my games so after several hours of gameplay I became a little bored.
Date: 2010-02-19 One of the greatest offline rpg to date... Well all that needs to be said about this game has been said and done many times over by the earlier reviewers. So instead of getting into details I will try to keep a short and concise review. Simply put inspite the game being 4 years old its still the best offline rpg out there to forget yourself completely too.
Oblivion can be considered as an offline version of the most massive fantasy online mmo's currently out there. The game has a living, breathing, massive world full of castles, huge cities, towns, outposts, dungeon etc. in which you can rpg a fantasy character. Furthermore, the npc's seem to be living a life of their own within a day & night cycle which just serves to add a realistic touch. All this game is missing is an Auction house but bartering or haggling with npc's makes up with a amusing sales expirience. This game allows you to follow the main quest line which is quite epic in nature by itself or if you want to live in a sandbox fantasy world than you can just run along on any direction after the intial quest exploring to what comes. They are abundant quests, guilds to join and other ways for you to progress in the game without ever having to engage the game story-line ever again. This game can last forever if just want to rpg a sandbox fantasy world or you can follow the game epic story-line and save the world which still offers hours of fun on its own or you can do bit of both(which is what I have done). Last but not least the game graphics are amazing even to this date with the cities, landscapes, castles, weather effects, day & night cycles and in general the game's world is rendered in great detail.
Well in a nut-shell if you haven't played the game you need to get the GOTY edition and expirience this masterpiece on your own. I got late into the game but boy am I am enjoying the game and I have finally found an immersive offline rpg that I can play on my own without having to pay a monthly fees or having to depend on others to progress. They are plans out there for a TES 5 and I am anxiously waiting to try out the next masterpiece in this series.
Date: 2010-02-12 A great game that can last forever. I really enjoy this game and I am not a game player. The biggest problem is it can take over your life if you let it. It is nice to escape to another world and this is the game for that. It can last forever if you want it to or you can play it when you feel like escaping from the real world for an afternoon or evening. Be careful to set a timer though or your whole weekend can pass before your very eyes.
Date: 2010-02-08 Great game! one of the best rpg games for the PC. Have been with this series of games since Daggerfall and the games get better each time.
Date: 2010-01-25 Absolutely Terrific Although Oblivion has been out for a couple years I waited buying it in order to get the GOTY edition. I wanted all the expansions plus all the up-grades and since I was busy playing WoW the wait didn't kill me.
I have been playing for just a few days now and boy oh boy what a game. If you have ever complained about a game being to linier Oblivion will blow that complaint to smithereens. After the introductory bit that takes about a half-hour of playtime you escape from jail** and are in the open world. You can do anything you like at that point, the main quest, secondary quests, or just explore the countryside and talk to the 100's of NPC. My wife played through the introductory part of the game and as soon as she was free to go where she wanted to she went "shopping." Figures.
There are literally dozens of different scenarios to work through and dozens of character builds to work out so this review is not going into all that it is just too much and to complex. If you are an RP Gamer you will love this one but I suggest you get the Strategy Guide in order to wring every ounce of gaming goodness out of Oblivion.
**Save the game just before you escape from jail (while walking through a long tunnel toward the light) this will be the most important save you make in the entire game... you will see why once you do.
