Xbox 360 Console Includes 20GB Hard Drive Review (continued)
More User Submitted Xbox 360 Console Includes 20GB Hard Drive Reviews
Date: 2008-08-18 Pleased, but cautious Well, I am a Baby boomer, that finally broke down and bought one of these things. I am not a gamer, but do enjoy an occational play, especially the military, and flight games.
1st of all, I have been using Amazon for years now, and have been pleased with them. I ordered this XBox one morning, and it was sitting on my front porch the next afternoon. Very impressive.
2nd. Out of the box, I had a blast setting up and playing the loaded demos. Like someone else said, I have never had so much fun, and things to do with a game console without even buying a game for it. I set up the free month of XBox live, and love that too. I have 3 grown sons whom are all gamers, and 2 of the three live far from me with their own families. I can play them, and comunicate with them like they were sitting in the same room with me. I LOVE that about this box all on it's own. I am very impressed with the XBox, and wished that I had bought one sooner. Within a few hours, I had it as a intergal part of my home network. I stream my own music to it as well as photo slide shows through it to my TV from my network's file server. AND, on a wim, page my son in College 900 miles away, just as I was calling him from the next room. I LOVE it..
The cautious part, I am still on the fence about the horror stories I hear about the heat issues with the XBox. I have not seen any yet, but it has only been about a week. So far, so good. I am keeping an eye out for those issues.
I think it was a great purchase, if for nothing elese but to keep up with my boys, and have that friendly father/son competition with them from long distance.
Date: 2008-08-18 Great Gaming Experience Have enjoyed this gaming system. Excellent graphics and easy to play. Would recommend to anyone.
Date: 2008-08-16 Junk Where should I start... 1) Overpricing for the play is worthless 2) Games library sucks... It reminds me of Nintendo releasing their crap sequels like Zelda and Mario, only for a new generation of console 3) Xbox Live can be fun but not worth it, especially since the PS3 is free online and you can play games on the PC online for free 4) Now that HD-DVD is dead and Blu-Ray is the king of all formats in 2 years time the 360 will make its way into the death-bed as one of the earliest consoles to get out of production, and this because Microsoft "thought" that them jumping into the next-gen console market 1 year ahead of Nintendo and Sony would give them an advantage... But it didn't especially when they lost the format war. 5) 20GB HDD... Don't make me laugh... I can go and pick up a 20GB HDD for $[...] 6) The freaking annoying controller always dies... If you want to have any use of it you have to buy the $20 recharger and battery pack... Which is a waste because the initial recharge time takes forever then when you play without the charger I found that on average it dies after 10-12 hours (when it was supposedly 30 hours+) 7) Horrible over-heating (EVEN on the NEW devices that have been made this year!) 8) Has scratched my games because of M$s pathetic attempt at keeping modding of the 360 down they forgot to add protection to protect your games! 9) The console is so dang loud... REEAAAALLLLY loud... TRUST ME!
Date: 2008-08-08 great system I've had tons of fun with my xbox and I don't regret buying it at all. I was a little worried about the "ring of death" problem when I got it, but according to cnet.com, that's a problem with earlier versions of the console.
Anyway, the games are very fun, and I'm surprised by how many quality games there are on xbox live arcade. Even better, msoft is releasing an update in the fall, so you can watch netflix through your xbox....which is pretty cool. My only complaint is that when it runs a disk, it's quite loud. However, with the fall update you'll be able to install games on the xbox, so that won't be a problem anymore.
I personally like the xbox more than the ps3. The ps3 looks like it's spiderman 3 themed, complete with the evil black grime thing covering it. Also, I prefer the xbox controller over the ps3's, which is basically the same as the ps2 controller. Although, if you want blu-ray, the ps3 could be a good option.
Date: 2008-08-06 Please do your homework before buying the xbox360... Let me preface this review by saying that I was (and still am) in love with my 360. That is the problem. I bought my system about 1 year ago and like the other folks, I babied the thing (Seriously). This week I ran headlong into a system failure (RED RING OF DEATH) after 30 minutes of playing during the evening, in an air-conditioned house with good air circulation around the unit. I had been warned by a friend before that failure was "not a question of if but of when". At the time I didn't think it could happen to me, I babied mine. I was wrong. Since then, I have talked to 4 other people who are in the process of repair or who have had theirs repaired. Customer service has been horrible in response to this problem. They changed their policy starting 8/1/08 and no longer mail boxes out for repair. They now email a packing label. After 5 days and 4 phone calls, they are mailing a box. I thought about buying another to tide me over and then selling it on ebay. Look at ebay if you have time. They are being sold in excess, as people have bought extras when confronted with this problem and are trying to unload them. That is because the 360 has a problem. That is why they have set up a program to handle this issue and that is why people are selling them everywhere you look. Do you really want to plunk down 300+ for a machine, if it is going to fail... Who else could market a 300+ maching with such a design flaw and get away with it! At this point, I agree with my friend, failure is almost guaranteed. It is a joy to play, but to be left hanging for 3-4 weeks after it fails is a PAIN. My advice... Think twice about your purchase.
