Date: 2007-11-28 A Great Expansion Brings new life to Company of Heroes. Awesome new armies well worth the money. I have had no problems whatsoever with bugs. Excellent game!
Date: 2007-11-27 Might be a good game - I wouldn't know Company of heroes heralds 9-9.5 in the ratings from most magazines, instilling in me the eager desire to play this game. However, after purchase I would have to say the game is more problem than it is worth. If you own Windows Vista DO NOT GET THIS GAME. I have run 4 patches for CoH, 2 hotfixes for Windows Vista, and have posted my problems to their lame technical forum all to no avail. If you want to spend $40 then spend an additional 8-72 hours of your time trying to get the game running then CoH is the game for you. However, I would recommend from personal experience to invest your money elsewhere.
Date: 2007-11-21 Realistic Action This game is a vast improvement over the first game in the series. This game provides a very good weather system and I like the effects. The improvements to the troops with the British and the new German forces is pretty good. It look like you are looking at a movie instead of a PC game. I think anyone into World War II conflict actions will really enjoy this game. I hope there is follow up games like the Russian front and the war in the Pacific.
Date: 2007-11-17 Great game Company of Heroes was one of our favorite RTS's to play, definitely the best RTS to date. Very stable, very fun. Opposing Fronts, the follow on, is a good game, but was released too early without adequate testing.
Even after the latest patches, my buddy, brother and I experience a lot of bad system crashes while playing. Relic's support continually blame this on drivers, but we're all running the very latest. It's the game, Relic.
If you've got a multi-core system, avoid this game like the plague for another four months, until they work the kinks out.
*** UPDATE 15 Mar 08 ***
We've tried playing a few times over the past four months, hoping Relic would release a patch that would let us play for more than 10 minutes without a crash.
My buddy, on a dual booting Mac Pro, continually complains of crashes that would mess with the video ram of his ATI card, forcing him to go through 4-6 reboots before the graphics card would work properly again. (yes, this is with the latest drivers from ATI). Last night it bit my Nvidia card for the first time, and totally corrupted my VRAM, requiring the graphics card to be replaced.
I can't say if this is a problem with Apple's Windows drivers, or a general problem with Relic's coding (it's got issues with Vista on Windows boxes as well). However, no other game I have has EVERY caused a problem like this, or crashes like this.
If you're using a dual booting Mac, do NOT get this game. It's fun, but the repairs are expensive.
*** UPDATE 10 Oct 08 ***
It's been nearly a year, we gave CoH:OF another shot. Apparently whatever driver issues the game was having have been fixed - we've been playing for several weeks now without a single crash or boot issue.
Given that, I now give this game ***** Fun and ***** Overall.
Date: 2007-11-11 Definitely some bugs and they ruined the original I have to agree with the other posters. Something causes my machine to crash quite often when I am playing Opposing Fronts. The original COH was smooth and quite reliable. Somehow, in their rush to get the graphics slightly better and sounds more authentic, the gameplay has slowed for the original american and German forces. If you are not in a rush, I would wait until the next major update to all the crash problems are addressed. It's definitely frustrating and shame on you Relic for releasing such a piece of buggy software. You should have waited instead of wanting the $$$$ so soon. This will come back to haunt you. I would not recommend this to my friends yet.
