Hot Wheels put out a solid game with Beat That
As an avid drive game fan, I've played almost everything out there for the PS2. My favorite racing games are arcade or street themed, but I've also played tons of realistic simulator type as well. Hot Wheel's Beat That is definitely in the former catagory, with less attention paid to AI and precise mechanics. These cars spin through loops, take wild dives, and really do any and everything you couldn't do in an actual car. If you've ever played anything in the Burnout series, just imagine that with a slightly less realistic spin.

Like most racing games, there are more than enough cars to choose from. There are also a ton of ways to customize your cars as well. But, like I mentioned earlier, these customizations aren't precise in their mechanics. Unlike many racing games, though (even many of the street titles), you can add weaponry to your car, changing the gameplay and making it more interesting. These weapons include rays, rockets, power ups etc.

Graphic wise, HWBT is colorful and bright, more lively than anything in the realistic simulator catagory. I believe they're fifth generation for the PS2.

At the end of the day, it really comes down to what you're looking for in a racing game. If you want something more realistic, try the popular gran turismo series. If you want street racing, check out Need For Speed. But if wild, arcade style racing is your thing, you could do a lot worse than Hot Wheels Beat That, even if it is a little juvenile.

Hot Wheels a Blast
My grandson loves anything hot wheels. He has had hours of fun playing this game. Looking forward to the next one coming out. He just can't get enough.

Hot Wheels Beats That
My son loves this game. He likes racing and a hot wheels collector...so this gives him the best of both.
