Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Gold Edition Review (continued)

Date: 2008-03-03 Too addictive.... don't get this game if you want to get anything done. You will easily play this game for hours before you realize that it is 4 in the morning and you have to get up in a few hours for work/school... buyer beware :)
Date: 2008-03-01 Good addition to the Civ series I've been playing this game for about a month now. If you like the previous Civilization games then you'll have a lot of fun with this one too. Just beware the addictive nature of these games. Once you get going it is very hard to quit.
Date: 2008-03-01 A solid sequel For those who have followed the Civ series, Civ IV is a great update to a classic. Many features have been expanded upon (more complex government choices, religions, many more land improvements). The graphics are amazing, rendered in 3D with great fight scenes. The keyboard shortcuts are as close as possible to the previous games, so you can pick that up quickly as well.
But be prepared -- it'll take you a few days of play before you feel like you have any idea what's going on. Even though it is very similar to the earlier versions, it doesn't FEEL similar, so give it time to soak in.
The only bummer is that the game requires you keep the original CD in the drive for copy protection. This is a big drag.
Highly recommended.
Date: 2008-02-24 No problems installing on Vista My soon-to-be 7-year-old son loves this game (as do I), so I finally bought it for his upcoming birthday. I had to try it out before giving it to him, and I had no problems installing it on my laptop running Vista--right out of the box. (I'm not sure why others have had problems. I wasn't upgrading from a previous version or anything like that, so I don't know.) My son loves choosing the different rulers, naming his own cities, scrolling in to listen to the music in the different empires, and creating "Rock-n-Roll" as fast as he can. It really is an engaging game, and hard to stop playing once you've started. My brother just got a copy of Sid Meier's Pirates (for xbox), and now my son has another favorite game that I'll have to get for my laptop.
Date: 2008-02-16 Be prepared for some late nights and a grumpy spouse This game is incredibly addicting. Previously, I had played a lot of freeciv (Civ II ruleset), and there are many more elements to this game. There is a wide selections of maps, terrains, and scenarios. One scenario you get to play the barbarians, pillaging different civilizations, which is a fun twist once in a while. The diplomacy and AI are well written, providing some tough opponents.
The only drawback with Civ IV, is spending too much time playing, resulting in a grumpy wife. :)
