Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Review (continued)
More User Submitted Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Reviews
Date: 2007-09-10 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix My daughter had been waiting and waiting for this game and was very disappointed when it wouldn't run. My husband and I tried everything we could do to get it to run and were ready to return it. I read lots of info on the internet and saw that we were not the only ones having difficulty. Eventually, a computer friend came over and spent about an hour getting it to work and my daughter loves it. However, I am very disappointed in EA for releasing a game that has such a big flaw in it. I'm sure consumers would rather wait than get a product they can't use. We'll wait longer and do more research before we buy another of their products.
Date: 2007-09-09 A Harry Potter Fan I have always been a real fan of Harry Potter and the books and movies. So when the latest movie came out I thought I would love to play the computer game. And I have played it many times and I love the easy instructions and the graphics and of course I love the music as well.
Date: 2007-09-07 Great Hogwarts Exploration Game The depth of design they put into this game is amazing. You can wander anywhere in Hogwarts without any big load times. But the game play itself isn't so great. The vast size of the game has it draw backs when you need to get from one side of the grounds to another, the portraits can be useful but hard to remember where each one leads you to. Also, in order to cast spells you have to do some sort of mouse movement that can be annoying to remember and perform. Also you do not have control of the camera so it can be difficult to see things.
Date: 2007-09-06 Mediocre attempt Mouse/Keyboard controls are borderline infuriating. Luckily, I had a usb controller sitting around that I was able to use, which made the game a little more bearable.
Probably the next most annoying aspect of the game is the camera. You have no control over the camera, unlike most of the better 3rd person games released today. What this means is you may end up having a hard time seeing where you are going, or what you need to be doing. Also, when the camera changes positions, you have to train yourself to adjust the direction you are running as it will no longer be the direction you indend.
OOTP was also a very easy game. I completed it in a weekend. While i didn't find every hidden thing in the game, it just just isn't compelling enough to go back and try to find the stuff I missed.
It was fun getting to run around the castle ground, and to cast spells, but the variety of spells is a little slim, (6 combat, 6 non-combat).
If you are a Harry Potter fan, and if you have some coupons, or the game goes on sale, by all means pick this up. Its relatively entertaining, albeit short, but not worth the the full $40 MSRP price, and defiantly not for the $60 Xbox 360 price.
I'm pretty skeptical of game review sites, but they were dead on with this one...5 out of 10.
Date: 2007-09-03 ...books and cleverness... The folks at EA have done it again, only better this time. OOPX excells at keeping the player involved. Amazing graphical interpretaion of Hogwarts, inside and out.. and all true to the world I might add gives the player the sense that s/he has been sucked into the Wizarding World. Wand-weaving spells, puzzles, mini-games, talking portraits, thestrals, and a storyline that adapts to your choices of what to do first. The interaction between Harry, Ron and Hermione tops all! Not too hard for youngsters, but captivating even for adults who love HP, this game kept me engaged for hours!
