Date: 2007-08-06 Easy to hard - entertaining to frustrating but like a magnet it draws you in. I was first introduced to FATE when I bought a new computer and it had a demo on it that allowed me to go down 3 levels. I was hooked. I tried the demo on line and decided I had to get this game to see what lay beyond. This is the first game I have ever bought and I'm over 50 - so what does that tell you? At any rate - It has 4 phases - each one getting progressively more difficult with Quests you agree to take on in order to gain more gold and fame. I'm currently stuck at level 32 at the Page level and while frustrated beyond belief - I'm a prisoner of competition with myself and the game of FATE. You can change the characters and decide what weapons to use; there are magical spells you can use (if you can figure out how to use them); decide when to go back to town (so long as you have a town portal book or scroll), gain healing charms to prolong your life, change your weapons and armour as your strength and magical levels increase; decide when to go fishing to pull either fish or jewels or weapons out of the pond - but beware - the enemy - who takes many forms, may sneak up on you causing you to perish; having then to decide to leave your gold behind and be transported back to town or a different level, pay the master a sum to be healed and transported to a different level that may be higher or lower than where you currently are, or forfeit some of your skill level to be healed and remain where you are to continue the struggle for a successful Quest. My only negative comment is that there is no booklet to read to refresh your memory or teach you how to do certain things. You more or less are left to your own devices to figure out what to do and when. Yet - I do not regret puchasing the game of FATE. It is quite addictive.
Date: 2007-05-16 Ridiculously addictive. At first I thought this game was a little cartoonish, the graphics are a bit childish. But it is a ridiculously addictive, fun little game. Nothing pretentious or earth shattering, just an immensely playable, entertaining and involving RPG game.
Date: 2007-05-16 Great Beginner Game! I have been playing PC RPG games for a while now, but I was getting a little tired of the usual drab dreary overly serious dungeon stuff. Fate is a nice change from that. It is simple, easy to use and you can get up and running and playing the game fairly easily. I especially like the play with a pet feature, it definitely added a new dimension to the game and I found a simple pleasure in just fishing and feeding the fish to my pet to see what it would turn into! On the down side, by the time you get to level 46-50 to complete the game, you are fairly bored with killing things, (can those Yeti's get any bigger?)taking their stuff and selling it to get more stuff. But all in all it was a nice respite from the dark side.
Date: 2007-05-12 Shameless Diablo rip-off, for the younger crowd I am thoroughly enjoying this game and I'm only halfway to my randomly generated boss level. I've had it for a few weeks now, and the only reason why I haven't totally conquered this game is because of lack of time to play and my slow, painstakingly meticulous style of play. Whenever I get a new piece of equipment I spend no less than 10 min weighing it's pros and cons against my current piece until I get frustrated with myself for taking so long and keep the old one for safe-keeping or to switch out when the need arises (you can tell that I don't have much space in my pack). This also forces to make frequent trips to town to sell all the junk I find and I have made quite a profit from it and am not ever in need of cash. But enough of my excuses...
I wasn't kidding when I said "shameless." This game combines all the most positive elements of Diablo and Diablo 2 and throws in a constant pet that NEVER DIES! It even makes dumping excess equipment for you easy by having it go back to town for you and returning the profit (according to how deep you are in the dungeon; it takes longer with eack level). It's brighter, more-colorful, and alot less "mature" with it's monster design and overall gore. Though some have knocked the soundtrack, I've been entranced by it's medieval/renaissance music and find myself humming it around house, much to my wife's dismay.
I recommend this game to anyone who loved Diablo or wants to share it's fun with a younger relative/friend. Don't forget to pick up three quests for the level you are about to enter BEFORE you go in, in order to maximize the amount of exp, fame, cash, and possibly items you get from them.
Date: 2007-05-12 Fate I am an avid fan of Sword & Sorcery games. This is one of the better ones that I have played receintly. It is enjoyable for young and old alike
