Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac [OLD VERSION] Review (continued)
More User Submitted Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac [OLD VERSION] Reviews
Date: 2008-08-23 I love this application I've used Parallels since v1.0 and this new v3.0 is just great. There are a few custom applications in our office that only run on Windows XP and Parallels lets me use them right along side my native Mac applications. It's stable, reliable, and easy to setup and use. It's even better than having a PC on my desk next to my Mac, because I can copy/paste info between applications!
Date: 2008-08-15 Poor Parallels support I have used Parallels for almost two years. Unfortunately the Parallels support is poor. Several times my emails were never acknowledged or answered forcing me to buy the $29.99 telephone service which was an arduous call. It took 3 techs before the problem was resolved. Ongoing problems persisted and again I emailed in my concerns and again, it has been many many days with no response. I just bought VMWare Fusion ....adios Parallels.
Date: 2008-08-08 Buyer beware This is a very unstable product and i am not sure how they can launch such a product with all these issues where files get overwritten. I have installed it on my mac, however I have lost a number of files. I created a PDF of a microsoft excel file and next I knew the excel file disappeared. Then again I created a new version of a word file as I updated it and this new file got created, however none of my updates got saved in the new file. I have been using word and excel and I have never ever had such issues. The rebate form asks for a stamp that is supposedly inside the box which really isnt there. I have also read other reviews on this site regarding rebates.
Date: 2008-08-08 Paralles Desktop I was looking forward to installing this so I did not have reboot every time I wanted my Windows XP system on my Intel Mac. However, this software caused me much grief --- I landed up corrupting a file in Windows that is needed to boot the computer. In order to recover I had to wipe the Windows partition using BootCamp and then rebuild Windows (no repair in Windows did not work). Response to my support request was very slow after my initial request, I tried again on my own with the same result. I did finally get a response that lead to the solution -- to remove some virtual devices (USB and Floppy). Windows worked fine then, and actually I could reinsert the USB controller. I will say that it is much nicer to have software like this rather than rebooting constantly. I also think the manual is a bit dense and could be more helpful.
Date: 2008-07-29 MAC flexibility Definitely impressed with the 3.0 version of Parallels. The interface with the newer MAC operating system is more seamless with easier sharing of files and applications bewteen the MAC and PC environment. Unfortunately, you also have to factor in the upgrade costs of Parallels 3.0 into the cost for upgrading the MAC from Tiger, as both upgrades are needed.
