Star Wars Galaxies: The Complete Online Adventures Review (continued)

Date: 2007-02-01 SWG is still a good game I joined the game back in 2004, and it was great, but I didn't like the NGE (New Game Enhancement) too much, So I quit in early 2006. But I decided to give it one more try, and I love it! I realized that it's not the game I had before, this is a new game and a great one! There are still some bugs in the game, but patches are commonly coming out. There are a lot of veterans of the old game that really don't like the NGE, so they give it a 1 star. They don't understand, SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) made a good move, now it's easier to make more content/patches/expansions to make it a even better game!
Date: 2007-01-30 BUYER BEWARE - Do not try trial if you want 30 days First: I like this game. I never played the old game, but that is the old game and not the NOW game people would be buying.
BUYER BEWARE:
If you want to try out the Free Trial FIRST before buying this, and find out that you like the game and wish to buy it and thus use the "30 days subscription fees included" with the game, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED!
SOE is ripping off buyers who have tried the trial. They will not allow you to use the code from the box and get the 30 days due to you as a result of purchasing the boxed product.
That is a raw deal. One they are doing wrongly. If you buy the boxed version, you should get your 30 days that come with it, regardless if you tried the trial or not.
This fraud has already been reported to the BBB and taken to a class action lawyer, so maybe this wrongful activity by SOE will be resolved. However until news of that comes about, just be aware of what you are buying.
Date: 2007-01-19 Great for a newbie, not much to offer a veteran. This is a great game if you are interested in wasting some time in an MMO and like star wars. It's not that great for a veteran of the game who wants new content all the time. This particular version is a great buy because you get all 3 expansions at once.
Date: 2007-01-09 SWG: COA Huge improvement to the way the old SWG played. The game is fun playing solo, but if you want the most out of your SWG experience, get a friend to join you. The game is more complex than other MMO's, but you don't have to be a big Star Wars fan to enjoy it. Adding all of the expansions in one box was a great idea, especially at such a low price. You can't beat it.
Date: 2007-01-09 SWG still fun if your a Loot and Treasure hunter After purchasing this latest offering for SWG I thought I would write, seeing how this has become like a thread in a forum :)
I have been playing SWG off and on throughout the various stages and have been keeping up with all the rants, threats and praises for the game. I remember pre-cu a number of players were petitioning to have the game updated and changed, grant it not drastically but nevertheless changed, ranged from unbalance issues, too sophisticated for new players, to hologrinding isn't the way of the jedi....blah blah blah. Change begins to happen and the community is in uproar...gotta love it...fickle.
Now the changes that have happened since are drastic. Yes I am also aware of the seemingly apparent bait and switch Sony did to us...I am undecided on that one but either way SWG is still a very fun game if...
If you like what no other MMO has at the moment a decent crafting system and loot display (emphasis more on the later.) I understand that these are reasons most leave an MMO lol but at least someone hasn't buckled to the "let us shove the content down your throat...we will create the stories for you" type of MMO. SWG remains a very open game while still being quest driven. And mentioning above collecting loot and displaying it in your home is one of thee coolest things SWG has going for it...In WoW, another favorite MMO of mine, your stuck with 2D icons that sit in a 2D sack or bank. Oh you can display your loot to others through a hyper link =( In SWG hanging rare paintings on the walls of your home of Vader or rare rugs for display is what drives us loot seekers and there is nothing a free as SWG loot/display system at the moment.
Anyway...I still play because of these remaining factors - sophisticated crafting system (in comparison to point and click crafting systems, loot display and collecting, and creating self-content.
If you like Star Wars, crafting and looting and being a pack rat this is the game for you...hands down.
*Disclaimer: spare me the hate comments I've read the rant and hate on the SWG forums for years. I've been in the community through the ups and downs and on both sides of the anti-Sony fence and know all the regurgitated arguments.
