Gears Of War Review (continued)
More User Submitted Gears Of War Reviews
Date: 2008-03-25 Good not Great really fun game but it has some hit detection issues, such as, the only way to get a head shot is with sniper rifle. It usually takes a clip and a half to kill someone from the assault rifle.
Date: 2008-03-21 can i marry it!!!!??? lol. I got into the Gears of War craze LATE... but i luv this game so much. I'm grabbing Gears of War 2 the DAY it gets released. Story unfolds well. Game play is SWEET. I luv the "duck and cover and shoot" aspect. Reminds me of playing paintball. :)
I RPG sometimes. I'm GMing a StarWars game with Clone Troopers. I've already stolen the game plot to use on the group. OH the PAIN they will have fighting "locusts!" lol
Date: 2008-03-10 Easy but fun. Now, I played Halo 3 before I played this game, so did a backwards comparison of the games. Gears was much easier than Halo, as it was a "move forward and don't die" game. But, half way through, I found myself addicted to the game, even changing my gamer tag on XboxLive to the Gears skull symbol. After finishing the game, it had a terrible ending, but I can't wait for Gears 2 this November.
Date: 2008-03-10 A must have! Love love love it!!! This might just be my favorite 360 game! Awesome graphics and gameplay... SO much fun! I've played this one beginning to end 3 times already and can't get tired of it. I can't wait for the second one to come out!!!!!!
Date: 2008-03-07 Gears vs. Halo? Which One to Get? If you're reading these reviews online, there is a good chance you are torn between getting Gears of War or Halo 3. They constantly get compared to each other since they are similar in many ways. And really you can't go wrong with either of them. But if I had to choose and can only get one, I would take Halo... Let's Compare.
As you've probably heard, the graphics on Gears are phenomenal. Nothing beats it to this point. There's a destructive environment, the sounds are very realisitc. You really feel immersed in the game. These features make the campaign mode exciting and intense, much better than Halo 3's campaign mode.
However, where Gears fails to match wits with Halo is in the online matchmaking mode. The Gears of War online mode is awful! They only have three game modes and it takes a long time to set up an online match.
The worst part of it is that there are no skill levels! I kept getting matched up against nerdy kids and college burnouts who play this game non-stop. I didn't stand a chance. I got extremely frustrated with the online mode for that reason. Overall, I beat the campaign in a week and then hardly touched the game afer that.
However, with Halo, the online mode is so well done that I played the game for months even though on the surface Gears looks better. With Halo 3 you are matched up with players of your skill level so you never feel overwhelmed. That way the game remains fun and challenging but not challenging to the point where you want to throw your controller through the TV screen.
If you got the money for both, get em both. But if you can only spring for one, go with Halo.
