Date: 2007-02-08 Even better than its forbearer's ! Just get this. If you like the game play of this type of adventure you will love this one. The best of the lot. Addictive
Date: 2007-01-23 Resource Hog, but good addition to the genre Running the game on a "recommended" system (2Ghz, etc.) still requires a substantial amount of time particularly as the game progresses and enemy moves are calculated. However, as the game is turn-based, the occasional substantial pauses between turn updates is an excuse to turn to more productive tasks - the impact (when in window mode) on other tasks appears to be minimal, possibly because the game exploits only a single processor (which it tends to run at 100% utility).
While I miss some of the features of prior games, the richer diplomatic actions, the fine graphics rendering, and the fairly substantial number of technologies makes playing the game both enjoyable and challenging. I expect it to be part of my actively played set of games for some time to come making it worth the price.
I'd like to suggest that Aspyr consider exploiting multi-processing however, to the extent possible in order to reduce turn latency.
Date: 2007-01-10 Great game, good sequel Civ IV is a great addition to the civilization franchise, and the designers added some really interesting new gameplay features.
Date: 2007-01-05 Civilization IV It seems like a great game. Unfortunately for me, I am out about $50 because I have a G4 computer and therefore can't use it. I didn't realize before this purchase that it isn't enough just to check the system requirements for operating system and memory. I also need to check the exact computers that it can be run on! It used to be that I just checked to make sure I was running Mac OS X and had enough memory, et cetera. Since I am running the most recent version of OS X 10.4.8. I figured new software would work. I'm frustrated that If I don't buy a new computer, I can't run new applications, but if I buy a new computer, I can't run all my old applications. Not a user friendly concept. The box sits on my shelf, useless to me. Too bad it wasn't made to run on a G4 as well. Oh well, the best laid plans of mice and men..." It's too expensive to expect users to continually start their application libraries all over from the beginning every few years, or to keep buying new computers while the old one still works fine.
Date: 2007-01-04 Civ 4 - Long Awaited, and Much Enjoyed. I've been a Civ fan since the original, and I am impressed with the improvments in graphics, style, and play over the generations. If you liked any of the older verions of Civilizations, or if you enjoyed Age of Empires, or other turn based "Empire" games, you should get Civ 4. You won't be disapointed.
