Heroes V is SUPER!
i'm a pretty big fan of the heroes 1-4 series and 5 was NOT a disappointment! couple of things to enjoy it a lot more:
1- as soon as u install the game, go online and look for patches (i'm up to 1.041). without the patches, the game wouldn't even START on my computer, but now haven't had a single crash!
2- i read many reviews online that there is no map editor, but there IS. it may be part of one of the patches, but going to the Start->Programs menu, u'll see MAP EDITOR as one of the options. granted, it's not like the heroes 4 editor and it'll prolly take some time getting used to, but the current maps in the campaign will keep you occupied long enough
3- if u DO wanna play the game more BEFORE u decide to buy any official expansion packs, then google "heroes V maps" and u'll find MANY sites with user submitted maps that u can download and play!
4- although during gameplay, i've never crashed, i have actually crashed a few times during the map editor, but it's no biggie
5- the auto save functinality is VERY EFFECTIVE in this version- saves up to 3 last played moves. super useful when u're given a time limit on campaigns

in a nutshell, it's a pretty ridiculously addictive game and if u're considering buying it, then bite the bullet and go with your instinct...it's WORTH the $$$!

Great addition to a great series
Definitely worth the extra money if you don't own the Heroes 3 or 4... They are awesome games in their own right. Heroes 4 had some problems, added some "features" that didn't really seem to belong in the Heroes franchise... Heroes V removed these flaws and added wonderful graphics.

Limited Edition Heroes V is great value
The limited edition Heroes V is a great value. In addition to the excellent Heroes V, it also includes Heroes III and Heroes IV, as well as a disk filled with superb artwork.

Heroes V is a worthy successor to Heroes III. Learning from the mistakes of Heroes IV, Heroes V returns to the superior Heroes III gameplay experience. It adds awesome 3D graphics, and has a better balance for the skills.

In Hereos III, magical skills were so good that comparitively speaking, the might skills were worthless. Expert Wisdom could allow any spell in the game to be learned. Expert Earth/Air/Fire/Water would cast any spell of that school with greatly enhanced results and often mass effect.

With Heroes V, magical skills are still excellent, but the gains are more limited for each skill point spent. Expert Wisdom is replaced by expertise in the particular schools. So spells above level 2 can only be learned if one is expert in a particular school. It requires 12 skill points to be expert in every school, so usually a character will be expert one or two schools. Mass effect is no longer associated with experise in a school. Instead, there are various mass effect skills that can be bought with 1 skill point each, if you already have some expertise in the school. Each point spent provides mass effect for only two spells. Again, with limited skill points, one must choose carefully which mass effects are most desired.

Some complain that magic is ruined in Heroes V because of these changes, but I believe these changes are very positive. Magic is still very powerful, but now the might skills are also very useful. One might well decide that spending 4 skill points for additional offensive and archery damage would be a better use than adding another spell school and another mass effect.

After the disappointment with Heroes IV, I was not sure what to expect with Heroes V. I am happy to say that the game is back on track, and better than ever. If you liked Heroes III, you will not regret buying Heroes V!

Great game, "Not so Limited" Edition
This game is superb. Great graphics, good story line, gorgeous CGI and in-game cut scenes, outstanding soundtrack, the list goes on. However, the Limited Edition is not so limited. The soundtrack for the game comes on a DVD, which as far as I know can only be listened to through the TV and DVD player. The disc also contains some interesting and entertaining artwork and game movies. I was unhappy that the soundtrack was included on the DVD and not a seperate CD. The rest of the DVD is nice though. The previous editions of HOMM, 3 and 4, are included on a single disc, which is great. However, no manual or monster chart or anything is included. Nothing else of the sort is included in the Limited Edition for HOMM 5 either. Unless this is a must have, stay with the regular edition. But by all means, get some form of this game as soon as you can! You will not be disappointed!

Just bought it & it is a blast ! ! !
First of all, about the poor review from M kat or whatever, his complaint about the lack of a map editor is hardly valid. Read the description of the game, did it say anything about having a map editor? No, your complaint is null and void.

As for the lack of instructions of Might & Magic III & IV, so what? You got 2 additional "old" games for another $10? Definitely a great value there and yes, thanks to the vast resource of the internet, you can find manuals to these classic games. The other little extras are nice too.

The game is spectacular and if I had known it was going to be released, I would have been anxiously waiting for it. I came across it in a Gamestop store by accident but glad I found it. It reminds me of the previous games but does not have all the classes of characters. Sometimes the framerate gets bogged down but I could tolerate it. Other than that, the music is outstanding and enjoyable. Graphics are up to par and are impressive.

I highly recommend to anyone that likes these types of games to pick this up, whether you're new to Might & Magic or not.
