Xbox 360 Nyko Intercooler Review (continued)
More User Submitted Xbox 360 Nyko Intercooler Reviews
Date: 2008-01-28 Good for about a day... I bought this item about a week and a half ago, and got it in last friday ..1/25/08. I was all stoke because i was going to install my new intercooler for the weekend to see what all the hype was about. After alot of the reviews i was worried about the product, but seeing that half of the people said it worked for them i thought i might give it a shot. I Game alot sometimes 14- 18 hours on end without stopping specially if i'm playing COD4 online. So my xbox gets really toasty to the point that i could probably fry eggs on it. So i was worried that i would eventually get some kind of hardware failure.Any how what really got me to buying this was that i played alot of PGR with the family and i had the game start freezing on me. I read that it had to do with the cd/dvd drive getting hot and burning the c.d.'s SO about 2 weeks ago i started having the same problem with my Ace Combat game. Thats a real bummer because this is like one of my favorite games. I bought the ps2 just for this game because there was really nothing else to even compare to this game when it came to flight simulation for consoles. To make a long story short i installed the inner cooler on friday and at first i was like.."wow, this thing works". I was playing all night COD4 and Ace Combat and the Box was nice and cool. I was very pleased untill the next morning when i got up to play some more and i got a read disc error from the box. I've never gotten that message. So that already had me a little concerned. I tried to read the disk again and it worked so i was like w/e. i played for about 4 hours and when i went to turn of the console the controls stayed blinking.I was like "wTF?"... the controls turn off with the box always so why whould they still be blinking? Went ahead and turned the box back on and i got the RROD. I've never gotten RROD before so i knew that it was the inner cooler... i took off the inner cooler right away turned the box back on and everything worked fine!... Thank god.I'm not saying buy it or don't buy it all i'm saying is that your putting your box at risk. I'll wait for microsoft to either come out with something that they certify for the box or just manage my playing time.
Date: 2008-01-27 YOU WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY I got one of these on the recommendation of a friend and it seemed to work pretty well. However, I started talking to OTHER users of it who told me that:
- Not only did it cause the Red Ring of Death on their 360s (this was according to Microsoft Repair). - The use of it voided their warranty and they had to PAY to fix their RRoD problem on their 360.
I ripped my Intercooler off that night - you should do the same.
Date: 2008-01-15 intercooler So far the product is doing what its meant for. But its very noisy and it discourages me to use it, the other day it even start smelling like it was getting burnt. Be careful.
Date: 2008-01-14 No good! My xbox overheated even with this thing on. It eventually shorted out and stopped working altogether. Defenitely not worth the money as it pretty much does nothing but pose a hazzard to your xbox.
Date: 2008-01-03 Come on NYKO Alright, I am glad I read all of the reviews and saw that I wasn't the only one who was experiencing problems with this.
I applaud Nyko on making a big fat sack of cash off of a piece of plastic that needs no power supply.
I have the first generation with no "clip" on the back to keep it nice and tight to the system.
Because of this, I have had to reach behind the system countless times in order to shove it in enough to power the 360. I have owned this for over a year and that was the main problem.
Now the unit makes a ton of noise, like the fan bearings are starting to go. I took it off and it was very, very hot. I took it back to target, a year later, and got store credit for it. Thanks for nothing Nyko!!!
