Seriously good game with serious flaws
Overall this game is good, and I will probably buy it as a result. The shortcomings are pretty awful, though. That's why it only gets 3 stars.

Cons:
* The save system is awful. It almost singlehandedly ruins the game. You die (which is very easy to do) and you lose all the progress since the last time you accessed some very inconvenient save point that takes 15 minutes to get back to.
* You can only have one save game, so it is very easy to save and then not be able to complete the story mission without starting over... I just ran into that. Without being psychic and knowing what the upcoming missions will require you to do, it is hard to know if you are saving yourself into a corner or not. Expect to have to start over a few times.
* A character in the game, Otis, calls you constantly, like some jealous girlfriend, and you have to drop whatever you are carrying to answer the phone (seriously... you can't answer the phone when your hands are full). If you don't answer he'll just keep calling back, forever. He usually wants to chat in the middle of boss battles or when you are surrounded by zombies. I'm really hoping Otis dies in this game. Or that I can at least get a restraining order against him.
* The game starts out hard. It gets easier as you advance... which is the exact opposite of what you would expect in a game. You have very poor stats and very limited inventory space, which means you run out of weapons and food very quickly. You have very little life so you can easily be killed by zombies if they grab hold of you. You are very slow, have no skills, and have weak attack power, so it is easy to get overwhelmed by zombies.

Pros:
* The only good thing about the save system is that you can save after you die (which really just deletes your saved game), start over and keep the level you attained. If it wasn't for that feature, this would be a 1 star game and it would have gone back already.
* Zombies... lots of them... masses of dumb zombies, just like I would expect.
* The weapons are brilliant. There's quite a bit of variety and some are pretty clever. One boss that I was unprepared for, I killed with pop cans. Seriously. It is also smart that the weapons break very frequently, which forces you to use weapons you wouldn't otherwise use. I wouldn't choose a chair or a cash register to beat zombies over the head with, but if I'm surrounded and my last weapon breaks, I don't have much choice.
* The food creation system is very well done. The things you can make with the food creation system really make a difference in the game. And who wouldn't want to drink a smoothie made from a slice of pizza and a bottle of wine?
* The photo system is somewhat unique and interesting.

Overall a good game with some serious, almost game-breaking flaws. Hopefully they will come up with a sequel that fixes those problems. That could be a 5 star game.

YOU CANNOT SAVE!!!
I played this game for about 5 hours straight and came across NO save points. Then, these convicts driving around in a jeep w/ a rifle attached to it started chasing me around shooting at me and I died, (WTF?!). Oh well, no big deal, I can just continue, right? WRONG!!! THIS GAME HAS NO FRIGGIN CONTINUES AND YOU HAVE TO START THE GAME FROM THE BEGINING!! DON'T BUY IT UNLESS YOU PLAN ON BEATING THE GAME WITH 4 MEASLEY BARS ON YOUR HEALTH METER!!! THERE ARE WAAYY TOO MANY ZOMBIES FOR THIS GAME TO BE FUN! IT'S A SEA OF ZOMBIES, YOU CAN'T EVEN MOVE LET ALONE PICK UP A WEAPON AND TRY TO USE IT!!! GOOD LUCK

uprising action
Luis Mejia (son) - free violenece has always been carried out by capcom in several famous titles, but overall there were to many monotonous titles that carried out a short plot but convincing action, but maybe non of these were displayed as original, interesting, complete, long, fun and difficult as Dead Rising prooves to be; overall, a unique sandbox. Dead rising, first of all, its such an interesting title even before buying it, and this is proven in the gameplay; its plot turns around a reporter, Frank, who is doing a coverage for the news of why a town in Colorado has been closed by the police, effectively, the town was plagued by zombies. Frank has a number of adventures in the mall he arrives, and you have three hours of totoal gameplay before your helicopter arrives. In the mall he goes to a safe zone, and also meet a pair of agents from homeland security and a surviving janitor, in which you can accomplish their missions and complete cases files. The gameplay is a sandbox, which permits you to roam around the mall, complete cases, missions, activities, change clothes, or simply roam around in any order you like, and every action you make is affective to the gameplay. The cool part is killing zombies with anything you like, either punches or chainsaws, sledgehammers, pipes, grass choppers, and a variety of objects. In the missions, you can complete cases missions, which is the main plot, or go saving survivors, but the peculiarity of these is that its not all common rescuing survivors, in some cases, you may find psychopaths. These psychopaths are survivors who are mad, corrupt, evil, or had gone crazy for the situation. Overall, dead rising will result as a breathtaking thriller fun for any teen or mature player.

So, the game seems perfect, but its far from it; the hughe mistakes:

- The saving system and way of carrying out the plot. For being a sandbox, the game gives you a time limit of gameplay, but the thing is that you get different levels for you to level up and become stronger, so you save, you want to play again and, surprise! there's no saved game, just your level and dressing is saved, so you have to start all over all the time each time you die or turm off your console. This can be EXTREMELY dissapointing at first, but believe me, after you carry out some levels, it'll be much fun.

- The technical glitches: the game was made in a format just for flat screens, if you have one, no problem ignore this part, but if you don't, the letters of the dialogue are very small and almost unreadable.

A Very Satisfied George Romero Fan
I remember years ago when I bought Resident Evil 2 for the Nintendo 64. I held the game in my hands dreaming of fighting thousands of zombies, barricading myself in abandoned houses (or malls...), all kinds of things Mr. Romero instilled in me years ago. Sadly, I didn't really get anything I wanted even though it was a great game.

Fast forward to the present, Dead Rising gave me everything I could want in a zombie game. There's so much to do, but the beauty is you don't HAVE to do any of it. Unlike RE2, you can choose to decline the missions presented to you, you can choose to not rescue survivors. Its a very open environment, and honestly I love everything about it. Completely worth the money.

The only thing that could make it better would if Fly boy, Bub, or Mr. Romero himself made an appearance...

Zombie Plan! Do you have one?
FUN FUN FUN! thats all I'm going to say for the most part. Good replay value the only problem is you really need to have the time and fortitude for all the zombie bashing. like seriously its a very time consuming game... but i love it all the same ^^
