Ok but nothing special
I went through a phase where I played WW2 games quite a bit. I loved the Medal of Honor series, and Call of Duty was decent but not great. So I decided to try out Battlefield, and I saw this collection at the store. There was a lot to install, so it took a while to get it all onto my computer. I actually enjoyed playing it for awhile. I did, however, become rather bored in a short period of time. The AI is not the greatest, and whenever I died my character had to run FOREVER to get back to the battle. I became bored mostly because of this. After running around fighting, then dying, then running back again, I felt like my character was getting a good workout but not really accomplishing very much.

If you have a lot of time and patience, this game is decent. Otherwise, I would pass on it and play something a little less frustrating.

Great games
I bought this for the Battlefield Vietnam since I already had 1942 but i also wanted to play from both of my computers thru the internet at the same time, me on one my brother on the other, but in order to do thta, you need two different game CDs because each comes with a unique key, obiviliously aimed at anti-theft of game Keys. Anyway, this cost very little for two games and two expansions. About 5 for each one. Both Vietnam and 1942 are fun. The differences are the weapons, vehicles and game pase. When playing in multiplayer mode, 1942 is more "take your time and aim" while Vietnam is more "charge and kill" that is basically the difference. also Battlefield Vietnam comes with the WWII mod, which is basically Iwo Jima, and two other maps from 1942 updates with the better graphics of Battlefield Vietnam. Overall fun game for a great price.

The good of Battlefield 1942
Ive been playing battlefield 1942 for 2 years. Good of battlefield 1942: Battlefield 1942 has always been my favorite game. It offers a nice level of freedom. battlefield 1942 gives some history of WWII its realistic weapons to its deadly corsairs. Battlefield 1942 is not just single player it has 64 player servers. 64 player servers aren't always easy to find. When you first start the game and go to multi-player you will find different servers to go to. The yellow servers you can go to and the gray you can't. By Downloading certain patches for battlefield 1942 you can make these "gray" servers available. Battlefield 1942 has been known (by its players) to be great for stunting such as bail loops in planes, flips in jeeps, and much much more. Glitching is another thing battlefield 1942 is known for. Its fun glitches make it easy to not die! unlike the newer battlefield games battlefield 1942 does not require Radeon series graphics cards. The mac version of battlefield 1942, though it is hard to find, is also available. One of the things that makes battlefield 1942 so appealing is its mods (modification) battlefield 1942 mods are made by skilled players often in coding. Mods edit the game. They do not make it better or worse they turn the game into instead of WWII mods into racing sky diving things like that. By going into the Custom Game panel in battlefield 1942s main menu you can choose different mods that you have downloaded.

A great deal-- quite a few problems
First off, let me note that this is a review of both Battlefield 1942, and Battlefield Vietnam. I'll cover 1942 first.

Pros--
Good weapon selection/class selection
Amazing number of vehicles
Everything is controllable, even battleships and subs
Semi-realistic
Amazing fun when there is good teamwork (piloting the machine gun on the back of a bomber is amazing)
Well presented

Cons--
NOT BALANCED AT ALL!!
This is one of the most unbalanced games I have ever played. Infantry are so infinitesimally weak, that it makes you wonder why you don't just spawn without weapons, and make your way to vehicles. Even the sniper rifle takes two headshots to kill. The guns are incredibly weak, making it impossible to hit anything beyond ten feet without a sniper rifle (even with the normal, engineer class rifle). Basically, vehicles trump infantry every time. Even the anti tank infantry takes a huge number of shots to kill a normal main battle tank.

Battlefield 1942 Expansion packs--
Although I haven't had a huge amount of time to play the expansion packs, they seem like pretty normal expansion pack fair-- new maps, new guns, new vehicles.

Battlefield Vietnam--
Now, I don't know why they chose to include this with battlefield 1942, but damn, I'm sure glad they did. This might be one of the most fun games I have ever played. They literally took every flaw with 1942 and fixed it. This is the most obvious when you play the WWII mod-- meant to be like 1942, but on Vietnam's engine. But, let me start from the beginning. As soon as you start this game, you are shown what may be the best pre-game cinematic ever made. And in this cinematic is the spirit of this game, and what makes it great. It does not glorify a horrific war like many Vietnam games do. The sound is fantastic; the sound track consists of many songs that will make you tap your feet. The most notable appearance songs are CCR's "Fortunate Son" and "War", both common anti-war protest songs, both of which appear throughout the game. Fortunate son appears in the pre-game cinematic, which sends chills down your spine as you see it. But, on to the actual game play. The graphics are a hell of a lot better than in Battlefield 1942, but the first thing I noticed was the power of infantry. The new setting makes hiding from tanks and APC's a lot easier-- if you see one and are not equipped to take it out (it is much easier than in 1942, a few grenades'll do the trick), then you simply run for cover over the next ridge, and chances are the tank wont follow you. Also, a note on bots; they are significantly improved over 1942's bots; however, they are still nothing special, and at no point will you be amazed by the AI. Though the vehicle selection is smaller, it is still quite good. You'll be able to drop napalm, shoot down hueys, and kill enemy troops all fairly quickly. You now get a weapon choice depending on what your class is; there are two kits for each class. Also, the game is far more balanced. As previously stated, it is much easier to avoid tanks-- infantry also do much, much more damage. Weapons feel realistic, a short burst with a Kalashnikov will do the same damage as two magazines would in 1942. Weapons are also accurate enough to make them feel realistic. But, all in all, this is an amazing package. 1942 is still undeniably fun, and Vietnam is simply an amazing game.
