2006 Streets and Trips w/ GPS
I found that the software and GPs was very easy to set up and get running quick. Easy to load and operate on Laptop PC.
My only wish would be that updates to this software be avaiable during the year with down loads. Found some streets are not on software.

awesome product
I have no complaints for this product. Yes it could have more detail, but for the price what can you expect. I never experience lag when using the GPS unit in my car and I have not gotten lost using it yet. I live off of a deep back road and the unit knows all the back roads near my house...Pretty impressive.

When Were the Street Maps Updated?
I purchased a newer version of Streets & Trips, a program that is terrific. However, the newest year version did not update the street info, a big oversight. GDT, I think, is the street source, but Microsoft doesn't always update the streets with the next year's version. Caution!

Absolutely Marvelous
I was a little apprehensive to order this item after reading some of the reviews. I am glad I ordered it though. First of all be sure you read the system requirements and pay attention to recomended section. For best results you will need Windows XP, have a minimum 256 mb Ram, and 1gig harddisk space to load the entire software. For other OS you will need to down load text to speech engine from Micro Soft.

The Streets software is great. I was amazed at the refresh rate as we cruised. It gave the exact speed we were travelling. It also give you your current altitude at the point of travel. All features are very easy to operate. F3 gets you to reroute the trip if you get off track. You can have the map auto turn in the direction of travel. Arrow appears when you are moving and turns into a dot when stopped showing exact location you are at. By the way you dont need the suction cup. At $ 65.00 this is a steal.

You can even install the software on your PD or a phone that have available feature on them by simply connecting them to your computer.

It is absolutely marvelous.

You Know The Old Saying About Microsoft Version 1 Products...
Generally speaking, this is a fairly good product. However, it has one major flaw.

The central application, the GPS mapping module, is excellent. As a sequel to several previous versions, it works consistently well and, shockingly, has yet to send me down the wrong path (ALL mapping apps are only as good as their data). And considering that I used this as my primary navigator for a 5000 miles road trip this summer that covered about 20 states in the Midwest, Northeast and Deep South, that's pretty impressive.

HOWEVER -- and this is important -- the voice command module is just about useless. As a new feature of this product, it adheres perfectly to the old adage about version 1 products from Microsoft showing promise, but being unacceptably unstable; as it can only be relied on for about 15 minutes worth of flawless performance. While the voice commands themselves are perfectly adequate for my needs, the module itself appears to have a rather large memory leak. Thus, after about 15 or 20 minutes of operation, it causes the entire application to slow down and begin to "stutter" (route tracking loses smoothness and updates sporadically). And after about 30 minutes, the application stops functioning altogether, along with the computer it is running on shortly thereafter.

The obvious work-around for this issue is to only turn the voice module on when you are within 10 or 15 minutes of your destination. But that shouldn't be necessary. And, having learned this the hard way during a tremendous nighttime rain storm in which visibility was low and I was depending on voice commands to steer me toward the correct exit (I missed it), I find this completely unacceptable for an aspect of a program which has become its central selling point.
