Over the Road
As a long-haul truck driver, I've found MS Streets & Trips to be extremely
helpful. Guides me directly to pick-ups and deliveries across the country. I run it on my laptop in conjunction with my Magellan GPS unit and I know exactly where I am at any given time. I've used it for two months now and it runs flawlessly. Very pleased with this program.

Worth the price if you get it on sale...
If youve used MS Streets & Trips in the past then you know this version is not their best effort.
My biggest complaint is the automatic routing. MSST will point you in the general direction but I seem to have to do more refining of the route in this version than I did the last. Otherwise, it will guide you the long way around a more simple & shorter route. The ability to choose driving styles or roads has been limited in this version. Im not sure why!?
Im a nationwide truck driver & I use MSST mainly to plan a trip & check the miles before I leave. And even though I purchased a small ultraportable 12" laptop for the road, its still difficult to use the GPS function as there isnt room for the laptop for safe visibility. And, its just not a very good GPS product. Its semi adequate.
For GPS, I use a Garmin Nuvi 350 & its great. Its far more expensive than the MSST but its far more useful.
MSST is a good product for the money if you get it on sale. Much better than yahoo maps or the other freebies. Just dont expect to much...

out of date
I have utilized many versions of StreetFinder for years. I was hoping that Microsoft Streets was more user friendly than StreetFinder.
So sad. It IS more expensive. Not user friendly... but worst of all, hopelessly out of date. The street I live on, for one example, was paved in 2004. Not on the map!

Really useful maping software
Microsoft Streets and Trips is a great value, and the name gives a reasonable description of what it does. Need to locate a business or friend? Just key the address and hit "Find." The application jumps right to a detail map or at least offers a list of possibilities.

The application also offers a route planner to help in planning trips. You can enter a starting location and destination, but for long trips, entering intermediate way points gives a better result. Selecting the "Directions" menu option displays detailed driving instructions and an estimate of elapsed time to each waypoint. One warning: the directions at highway intersections can be a little squirrelly, so you might want to eyeball the map for a more reasonable approach. Selecting "Update Construction Information" displays the current road conditions.

You can select four basic map types: road (the default), terrain, political and night. The night map is rather bizarre: it displays in shades of green and black, sort of like night vision goggles I guess. How this would be useful I have no idea. All maps can be zoomed to any degree and they show points of interest which are selectable under the "Show or Hide Places" option. You can select restaurants by type (15 categories) along with many other places of interest, such as airports, ATMs, cinemas hotels, hospitals, schools and rest areas. Selecting "Find Nearby Places" shows all selected places of interest within a several mile radius of the map's center. Places show as icons until you zoom in, but clicking on them reveals their names.

There are bells and whistles galore, including GPS capability which can plot your car's position as you drive along. You can even measure the great circle distance between any two points on earth using the "Measure Distance" option. You can even annotate maps with push-pin labels and drawing objects, then save the result for future reference.

Streets and Trips is surprisingly useful and quite intuitive. Highly recommended.

Streets and Trips 2006
This product is wonderful...it's very detailed and you can't beat the price. I would reccomend this product for anyone looking for directions.
