this thing sucks
This operating system is just a bad system, it would install one machine out of 5 machines i have in my game room, but the one time it did install none of my hardware was supported, if someone is looking for a good stable updated great to use, easy to use linux distro i would recommend ubuntu 6.10, ubuntu's saying is "it should just work" and it does, right out of the box. free or you can buy the dvd install disk

Surprisingly Feature Packed But Unmaintained Since 2004
I will commend this distribution of Linux because of the amazing array of extremely useful applications it contains: Blender, Open Office, sodipodi, Gimp, Video Editor,
Scribus and Ximian Evolution among others.

But sadly, no one is keeping it up-to-date and the package updater is offline as well.
As a free trial live CD it is one of the most excellent Linuxes I've ever used. Sure wish the good doctor would come back and rescue this great little linux...

Live CD looks pretty good
I downloaded the live CD and ran it on three different machines, all with good results. The defaults in Santa Fe Linux makes for an attractive desktop and most of the applications appear to be quite good and useful. However, unlike SimplyMEPIS the live CD is just that and it does not have an installation routine -- you have to purchase the full version. I was sufficiently impressed by what I saw that I am entertaining spending the money. That event is contingent upon the answers to a couple of questions that I have posed to Santa Fe Software about SMP for my dual-Athlon rig. Overall, this distribution looks promising to me, a Linux user for better than ten years.

Something is wrong with last review
I was just on the site and you can download a Live CD, But I understand it cant install. So how were or why were you trying?
Now if you like you can go to the site yourself and read the forums. Dont buy Mandrake. It isnt even close to this Buy Lycoris LX or SuSE personal edition.. They are a desktop linux distro
After what this man posted I have to wonder about his motives

Check the site yourself http://www.santafelinux.com/

Suggest Other Distributions
The main "reason" that you are supposed to want Santa Fe Linux over other distributions is that it is supposed to "just work". On three different machines, I was unable to get the product to even install. On the fourth I could get it to install, but it didn't work with my printer or my wireless network card.

I would personally recommend that someone looking to buy a Linux distribution for the better support (rather than just downloading one) examine Mandrake 10 which has much wider community support and more documentation available.
