Star Fox Assault Review (continued)

Date: 2007-01-16 Enjoyable but short This game is very fun. It has plenty of on-ground action on foot and with the Landmaster, but Arwing action is slightly limited which may disapoint oldie hardcore fans. Learning the controls is pretty easy. It has beautiful graphics and smooth animation.. The characters all have pretty vivid personalities (especially Slippy, hes so cute) except for Fox for a reason I'll mention later. The voice actors are pretty good. Falco sounds like he's a ganster, which is pretty appopriate, and although Krystal's British accent is pretty weird at first it grows on you. They were all pretty top-notch except for Fox himself. The voice acting for Fox pales in comparison to his lively, personality-filled, younger sounding voice in Adventures and often fails to convay any emotion (otherwise it would be pretty good). The missions themselves are pretty fun, especially the on foot missions for fans of Adventures, but the downside is that there are only 10, and they're kind of short. About ten more would have made it a more fulfilling game. On that note, unless you have friends to play multiplayer with, or you get a serious deal on this game, I would only rent it because most likely, especially if you are a veteran fan, you'll finish this the day you buy it and the ending isn't very fulfilling (I haven't beat the last mission yet but I have seen the ending). Being that this game is short, the plot is also rushed and there is not much development of the story, although it had good potential. Star Fox Assault is pretty child-friendly, despite the teen rating. The scene of Pigma being possesed by the Aparoids and his boss-form may scare some younger kids, but from what else I remember its pretty mild except for of course normal shooting violence. There's no blood however, and the enemies do dissapear after you kill them. In short I would reccommend giving this game a rent because the few hours you play it are very enjoyable.
Date: 2006-12-28 A good return for the fox. Good: Fun gameplay ; Great voice acting ; Ability to repeat your missions in different difficulties to beat your score ; Good variety of land and air missions ; Up to 4 players in a multiplay battles ; Unlockable goodies.
Bad: A short game of only 10 missions ; multiplayer won't last that long.
Date: 2006-12-02 Star Fox is Back After the disappointing Star Fox Adventures, the series bounces back with Star Fox Assault. One of the best parts of the game is it's return to space. The space battles in Arwings are the same as the classic ones in Star Fox 64, they are great addictive and fun, just like the classics. I had thought the ground fighting would be horrible like in Adventures. But it is amazing, the fighting is steel upbeat like in space, yet still challenging. The third person view point is usefull for seeing the masses of enemies that usually surround you. Their is a wide variety of weapons, including machine guns, gattling guns, grenades, and rocket launchers. In some levels you can drive landmaster tanks, which are strong sturdy and durable, its main gun is powerfull enough to take out almost anything in one hit. On certain ground levels you can fight to your Arwing and clear the skys to make the ground work easier. Every level you complete in the campaign unlocks it for multiplayer mode giving you a fun reward for victory. The multiplayer is mainly team based FFA, you can choose from a good selection of maps and decide if Arwings or Landmasters are present on the field. Some levels are strictly space, allowing only the Arwings. On the ground levels you can choose to be able to go on foot, and with tanks and fighters available. You can disable the on foot option to have massive tank of fighter battles, which are fun in the city levels. All in all it is a great game that both lives up to the Star Fox name and makes up for Adventures.
