Date: 2006-07-05 Fantastic game Thats all tha can be said. This is a fantastic game. The way the game play is set up it can be as deep or as light as you want the experiance to be. Just a word of warning though; when you start to play this game be sure to set an alarm clock to ring every few hopurs so you remember to eat. Otherwise you may find a day or two goes buy and you wont even realize it. Civiliztions III Complete is that good!
Date: 2006-01-14 Excellent game, recommended for Civ II fans and newbies alike. After being a longtime Civilization II addict I was a bit skeptical about this game at first. Mainly because, I wasn't doing so well. I took for granted that settlers could no longer create improvements and did not have nearly enough workers. I disliked the idea of civilizations getting their own individual units and my first instinct was that I had wasted my money and should dust off my Civ II CD and resume from where I'd stepped off. But as anyone who noticed my rating knows, my feelings changed.
I soon accepted the game for what it was: vastly improved, and I now enjoy all of the new features in addition to the better grpahics. I'm not quite sure what the point of my previous paragraph's rant was, because the majority of you should like this game immediately (everyone else I've spoken to has), but for anyone who finds it confusing, tough or boring, stick with it. By 1000 AD you'll be hooked ;)
PS: I disagree completely with lighten_up_already2's claim that your opponents recieve all of the useful resources and that the game is unfair. I've enjoyed every landscape I've played on and hopefully you'll have better luck then they did.
Date: 2006-01-13 Addictive! This is possibly the most addictive game ever invented! More so than The Sims, even.
You'll end up spending hours creating a world, modifying the terrain, distributing resources, planting barbarians, and then spend even more hours conquering it.
Some days it's the world building that's most rewarding. Coming up with your own map, making it extra hard (or incredibly easy if you like to cheat your way to victory), deciding how many or few opponents you want, where the resources will end up and how hard it will/won't be to get to them. But on other days there's nothing better than the catharsis of grinding all the other nations into submissive paste beneath your heel. Utterly and completely annihilate your enemies, overwhelm them with troops and force them to beg you for mercy. And then not give it.
A single game can take hours or weeks to play, depending on how you run it or how much time you have. But it's always rewarding, even if you suddenly realize the clock is reading 2 am and you don't have clue one how it could *possibly* be that late....
Date: 2006-01-03 Extremely Enjoyable I have been after this game for some time, in fact ever since I saw it in the 40 dollar plus range.I bought it brand new for half that price, and it is indeed the Civ3 Complete game. The game has gone through 4-5 price changes since I first saw it, and it is my first exposure to the CIV system. My first requirement in a game is that it is fun. And Thus far it has fulfilled that requirement. I bought it almost back to back with AGE OF EMPIRES 3, and whilst AOE 3 is far more demanding of my current system, if set right, I still get the same amount of fun. In CIV 3 Complete, I would recommend at Least a Pentium 4, with as much memory as possible. Whilst my current Video card is no slouch, it is pushed to the limits and more with AOE 3, however with Civ 3 Complete, it works just fine. Whilst I am not a die-hard gamer, it can clearly be pushed harder, and to the limits. Hopefully I can add a little more to this review in the next few works, but thus far, CIV3 complete is a blast, and a superb first experience that makes me more likely to get CIV 4 at a later stage. However, with my personal fave, AOE 3, I will probably focus on that, since the AOE 2 experience has been, and still is, a great blast. Hopefully AGE OF EMPIRES will produce a new edition sometime soon. Whatever your level of skill is, I hope you enjoy the game, and have many fun hours.
Date: 2005-12-09 Good but... This is a very entertaining game, and can keep you occupied for hours. I have only one complaint. The CPU can conquer one of your cities defended by twenty tanks with a medieval infantry guy. Most of the times the battles are not realistic at all. My tanks frequently lose to puny medieval units. I would love to see a man with a sword defeat a tank. Not gonna happen. I suggest buying this game because it is fun, but expect to be pissed off every once in a while when the CPU kills your best modern units with ancient units.
