Silent Hunter III (DVD-ROM) Review (continued)

Date: 2006-12-17 Very engrossing! Best uboat game out there by a mile. This is the type of game you will lose a whole weekend on once you learn the ropes, it would be hard to imagine a better u-boat game, or what could be done to improve this game. The graphics are awesome and the excitement of hunting and being hunted is very real. You may wind up in a mental hospital calling yourself Capitan Hans Gruber or something but it would be well worth it. You start out in a type2 small coastal uboat and work your crew up, promoting and hiring, training and then tranferring to type7 then 9, you can also change bases. Missions are very flexible, you never know whats on the other side of the fog, or what will happen when you surface to recharge you batteries or replenish oxogen levels. You have to monitor everything exactly like the real deal. You can change realism as well, If you want true to life depth charges, you got them, them damn destroyers will drive you mad, it is like they can read you mind, the AI is very very good and not predictable. All in all its not for everyone of course, only for those who would of got a kick out of actually joining the Kriegsmarine, because its a damn close simulation.
Date: 2006-11-04 Silent Hunter III The type of gane that you can spend hours playing. Great animation
Date: 2006-10-24 No Fix for Windows Vista Great game but be very careful of Ubi's copyright protection software, Starforce, (its like a virius on your computer) they have stopped using it but will not issue a fix for it to run on Windows Vista. Hopefully Ubi will fix this so the game has a future with Vista.
Date: 2006-10-05 Silence is Golden I have windows XP and I had no problem installing this game or running it. The graphics are stunning and the way you can move around with the camera is a lot of fun. For example, you can follow a sinking ship-underwater- until it disappears into the murky depths. But you still hear it long after you can't see it. I especially enjoyed the cameras on the torpedoes. This version seems to be more realistic than Silent Hunter 2 with the success rate of torpedos exploding. You shoot too close or at a bad angle and you don't score. My only minor complaint is that you can't create a mission like you could in 2. In two, I especially liked going headon with a convoy and singling out the destroyers. And getting them before they got me.
Date: 2006-08-18 Use Caution to insure it is compatible with your hardware Not mentioned here but only on the Installation Instructions is that this game will ONLY run on "NVIDIA GeForce 3/4/FX series except MX series cards ATI RADEON 8500/9000 family cards or newer"
I checked their website FAQ and they've added no addtional cards since the Installation Instructions were published.
Since I have a high end Matrox that leaves me out. Just wanted to mention this as this can result in a disappointment although Amazon was hassle free in getting a refund.
