"Classic" in every sense of the word
My review is simple... if you remember playing this game on your old Nintendo, and want to bring those good old days back into this serious era filled with games like Halo, Resident Evil, and Final Fantasy Billion and Two, then go and get it. It is an awesome game in that regard. However, if you have never played the game before, or if you are like me and only played the game until you got a new one, then pass it by. The game is exactly like the original.

I give this game 5 stars for bringing back a classic, but as far as fun goes, I would give it 3.5 stars.

Exactly the same as I remember
This is, for better or worse, EXACTLY the same as the original NES version of Super Mario Brothers.

That is what I wanted and it is what I got. The game is extremely difficult, there are no continues, and the slightest wrong move can kill you.

But that is what I remember. The 1up mushrooms are where I remember them being, the sound effects and music are the same.

For nostalgia alone, it is worth owning. For a young gamer, who has never played this game before, I doubt it will be so fun. But all young gamers should at least once learn what it was like to play video games when there was no 'save game' feature or 'continue'. Those were hard scrapple days indeed!

I have to admit, though, that after a month of owning the game, I rarely play it. It is more of a museum piece for me than a source of constant entertainment.

Way better than the Super NES Version!
Well since this game was rereleased in June 2004 for the Game Boy Advance, I just think that this version is alot better than The Super NES Version because I can Compare both Versions at one time.

NES Version

Graphics 9/10

Gameplay 10/10

story 8/10

Fun Factor 10/10

And now the Super NES Version (from Super Mario All Stars)

Graphics 5/10

Story (still the same as the Original)

gameplay 6/10

Fun Factor 4/10

I just think that the Super NES Version of this Game Sucks because I think the NES Version is better so everybody if you want to buy this Game don't buy for the SNES, Just buy this for the Game Boy.

GREAT CLASSIC!!
This game brings back so many fun memories - memories of staying awake ALL night with friends and playing it over and over and over. And big deal and who cares that it does not have a 'save game' feature?? Nintendo intended to put the game out in its original form - and the company did!! To add 'one little feature', as one reviewer so delicately put it, would have been changing the original!!

BRAVO to Mario!! :-)

Super Mario Bros.
When this product was first release in the middle to late eighties, it was extremely successful. It was the first of the Mario Bros. games. Without it, I have doubt that Nintendo would be near as successful as it is today. I first played this game on my parent's NES when I was around eight years old, and was hooked. About two or three years later, I had beated the game about twelve times, but only because I had found out about a few cheats, the warp zones. Unfortunately, my parents NES, being pretty old, stopped working. When I found out that they released this game on Gameboy Advance, my sister and I were ecstatic. There isn't any difference between playing it on the NES and Gameboy, except you have a sleep mode and you don't have a regular game controller. I rate this product a ten out of ten, and reccomend anyone who likes the Mario Brothers purchase it.
