Star Wars Battlefront Review (continued)
More User Submitted Star Wars Battlefront Reviews
Date: 2006-01-09 This is an extremely fun game, but bypass it for Battlefront II If you've read the other reviews, you'll already have a firm understanding of BF's glories and weaknesses. To recap them: the graphics are stellar, the controls are well-arranged and easily learned, the AI is decent but by no means invincible, the single player mode is rather disconnected, your character and vehicular options are many, and in the end, you will surely end up complementing yourself for purchasing such an enjoyable game.
However, with the introduction of SW: Battlefront 2, buying this game for online play will surely be a bad mistake. It may be more attractive than it's counterpart because of its lower price and more conservative system requirements, but you will be one lonely Star Wars buff in cyberspace if you believe that the Battlefront I fanbase will remain the same in the wake of BF 2. You will have a difficult time finding multiplayer opponents for this game at the time, so I would suggest that you either upgrade or pay the extra twenty bucks for BF II.
Date: 2006-01-02 it aight well, i bought this game because of the 4.5/5 average rating from 100 reviews. i totally dont get it. multi player has one thing, ctf. what is that. multi player is the only part of this game that is even close to good. the single player sucks. the AI is not smart at all.
Date: 2005-12-12 Fun game, but stupid AI At 15 dollars, Star Wars Battlefront is well worth the price. Despite the 3-star rating, I am hooked on this game, but it has some shortcomings.
1) The computer AI is fairly bad. Highly scripted. Units tend to clump at way points on their way to an objective and often just stand around doing nothing. Units rush headlong into the guns of the enemy. Lucas Arts should have spent a LOT more time on the AI.
2) The single player scenarios are repetitive.
3) Jedi/Sith are impossible to kill... but since they have stupid AI, it's fairly easy to avoid them, or draw them off.
4) Multiplayer games get seriously laggy with a lot of opponents. I haven't joined a game with over 8 or so players without having serious lag even with a low ping to the server.
5) PC users and Mac users can't play together unless the PC user logs into GameRanger. GameSpy doesn't support Mac users for this game, which is lame. Not really Lucas Arts fault... GameSpy raised it's licensing price for the Mac version and the Aspyr had to turn them down to control costs. GameSpy are a greedy (...) for making the license cost more on the Mac than the PC.
Despite all that, multiplayer is a hoot and I do like playing Battlefront... but the dumb AI allows human competitors to take advantage of the best places to snipe or the best capture points to get right away. Instead of winning by capturing all the spawn points, teams usually win by killing off the most enemies.
Also, the "Capture the Flag" multiplayer is the only game type given, which is a real bummer.
So, the game is fun, but there are better multiplayer games out there... Still, there's something about driving an AT-AT across the Hoth snow that's fun as heck.
Date: 2005-12-06 Very well done! Last Christmas, I got Star wars Battlefront. Sadly my computer was not good enough for the grapics card requirements WARNING: IF YOU BUY THIS GAME MAKE SURE YOUR COMPUTER WORKS WITH IT. It drove me insane. Finally a couple montha later, I finally got the graphics card. It is a very well done game. It has 20 standard star wars troops (including wookies, and destroyer droids, and clone troopers with jetpacks) from the (new and old movies) and has many playing maps. Pros: It has wonderful graphics Your troops never do the same thing twice You can list commands to nearby troops You can be a wookie :) Cons: You can't pick up dropped weapons The campaigns aren't much different from the instant combat maps
Date: 2005-11-19 Star Wars Goodness I have changed my mind about this game. I guess you truly do have to get used to the controls. And even then you have to reach a higher level. Picking off people from a distance never gets old. Taking over turrets is fun. Probably the best is using the jet paks or riding on the speederbikes. Taking over ground vehicles is kind of cool and the new and veried heroes are cool. The new mini-game missions are the same thing over and over again just like the main game. Boba Fett taking out nasty little Gungans and Jawas seems like fun and it is kind of. Bottom Line: If you are the biggest starwars fan of all time ...buy this game. It will not disappoint if you stick with it. Is it for kids? No blood, but lots of killing. Will I keep it? Yes.
