Boy, did I overlook this one
I had this game for years along with quite a few others that I neglected to play. I had started this game a number of times and just couldn't get into it. This was the case until the DRM fiasco caused me to look once more at my old never played games. Well, I really made a mistake by not giving the game a fair chance. The game is great, mature, and fascinating to play. The graphics are absolutely first rate. I would not recommend this game to youngsters but if you are looking for an exciting game that will keep you occupied for hours you couldn't ask for a better choice.

the real successor to Fallout 1&2
awesome game, tons of fun....i really haven't felt this drawn into a game since the original Fallout series...Stalker really picks up on the whole post-apocalyptic feel, with amazing FPS gameplay, logical missions, a deep world.

Great game but has flaws
I'm a fan of rpgs and first person shooters, so naturally this game intrigued me quite a bit. For 19 bucks it seemed like a good deal, but I guess there's always a catch.

First, the fps mechanics are here, realistic weapons and fast paced action keep the game interesting and fun. Kill the enemies, take their loot, trade it in for cash,do some jobs, earn some rewards. All of what you expect is here. Truly a glorious blend of rpgs and first person shooters.

The graphics in the game top notch, not mind blowing, but still pretty good. The sound is great, from the guns to music, it's all really well done. The story is interesting, not great, but keeps you focused and curious as to what happens next. The atmosphere of the game itself is what will keep you playing for hours on end.

It's a good game at heart but has many design issues that honestly don't make sense.
Here are a few:
1. it takes a while before you find a flashlight or some way to allow to you see in the dark.
2. You'll accidentally run into areas that'll cause instant death and you will not understand why.
3. You have time limits on some missions and even if you complete the job if you don't get back to get the reward in time the mission is considered a failure which means juggling quests can be stressful.
3. You have no way to repair your weapons and armor so you'll basically lose your stuff eventually as you use it.
4. There's no way to fast travel, so you'll have to walk to everywhere which gets tedious and repetitive after a while.

But by far the biggest flaw is it's difficulty level, you don't level up and a lot of times you'll have enemies spawn out of nowhere in groups of 3-10 and the majority of the time it's right when you never expect it. I understand challenge is good and I do enjoy challenges every once in a while, but there's a difference between challenging the player and flat out annoying him/her till the just do not want to even play anymore.

It's a great idea and I do enjoy it, but a lot of times you'll get frustrated and confused at the random deaths and enemy spawns. All I'm gonna say is that it could have been better.

You are in the Zone
You can, if you sit back and think about it afterwards, find flaws in the game. But the truth is that they don't matter, because while the game is running you are IN the Zone.

The Zone is a strange, malformed area around the wreckage of the Chernobyl reactor. (Think Tarkovsky on radioactive steroids.) Once it sucks you in, it is very hard to get out again.

Becasue the truth is that the Zone is a world, and like any world, it has its own rules, and its own inner logic. Your own interactions with the Zone and its denizens are carried out against those rules, and as long as you learn the rules, you can live with them. Yes, the game can be difficult, but it is never arbitrary. Your AI opponents will be tough, but if you approach battles carefully, you can still win. When you die (and you will die, a lot) it is usually becasue of something that you have done wrong.

Other have complained that you spend to much time manging your inventory. Yes, life would be simpler if you could carry every item and weapon that you find, but in the real world you have to abide by certain constraints, and the Zone is, in some sense, a very real world.

There are occasional glitches. The mechanism for picking up found objects is slightly, and irritatingly, different from the mechanism for managing those same objects once you pick them up. There is a trading mechanism, but, like a Soviet era supermarket, the number of itmes that you can actually buy is very limited. The structure of the game requires slightly more back-and-forth travelling than is strictly necessary.

But all of these are quibbles, and the truth is that Stalker offers one of the most compelling, disturbing, and immersive game-playing experiences available. If you want to enter a new world, and feel as though you are living there (possibly for an all-too-short period of time) then this is a game that you need to get.

Fantastic Game!!
STALKER is a game that is interactive and engaging, it has great gun fights, an awesome story and some seriously creepy locations. I've played through it several times already and thoroughly enjoyed the game each time I played it! There are some great mods for it available too! Developers should make more games this rich...
