Non-serious gamer enjoys the xbox
In late 04 I decided to give in and purchase THE gaming system at the time that was the original Xbox. Having not been a real dedicated gamer previously and only played on (and never owned) systems I had little knowledge of how it'd be upon use--but since Halo 2 had just been released to rave reviews I knew I had to try it out (hey, it's HALO, people!). Man, I was glad I invested in it! It's a bit large (compared to my best friend's PS2) and is a bit difficult to lug someplace, but the graphics are much better than the PS2 and the games available for it are great (significantly the critically acclaimed Halo series, of course, THE best game out there in my opinion). There are some issues with how bulky the system is but it's about the quality of gaming rather than how bulky a gaming system is.

Pshhh.... not what I expected
Xbox's are not to good at all. Theres a few cool games so what? Ps2 is much better! So just get a Ps2.. Hey it doesn't cost 70 dollers for the net play thing!
So....
PS2 is better

Great system...but...
Yes, the Xbox has to be the best video game system I have ever bought. I own, also, a GameCube, me being a big Mario fan (Sierously, who isnt?). I've had my Xbox for, oh, two years. But recently, it has died. I'm not sure what went wrong. The cords are fine. I've even bought replacement cords, but it just wont come to life. I was thinking of buying an Xbox 360, until I read all the bad reviews. Apperently, the 360 has some kinks in it. So, I plan on buying another Xbox. If I were you, I would purchase an Xbox, not a 360.

Ups:

-Great graphics.
-Sound = awesome.
-Game genre is awesome!
-No need for "memory cards".
-You can use the consol as a DVD player, and a music player!

Downs:
-Controllers are a bit bulkish.
-A bit faulty.

Obviously, more ups than downs!

Great Buy!
I have owned an XBOX for over 3 years now and it was really the best gaming machine of the last generation. Mine has worked perfectly, I love the music soundtracks where you can load your own CDs unto the hard drive and play them instead of certian game sountracks.

The game selection is much better on the xbox as are the graphics. You get Halo, Project Gotham Racing 2, Midtown Madness 3 (a must have fun game), and Xbox Live.

I have used my xbox to play DVDs and as a Media Center Extender (with purchase of $25 Kit that comes with the Remote) and it works well, no fumbling with your controller like on the PS2, just a simple remote!!
