Date: 2004-01-26 Mario Kart This game rocks. some people might think that its the same as n64 mario kart but its not. The battle mode rocks. The two ppl and new karts and switching rocks. Some people might also think switching isnt important but it helps a lot in battlemode and using items in battle and normal. All in all i think this deserves a 4.5 out of 5 but they didnt have that on the list thingy. Great game... for a gamer that likes new versions of classic games i would say this is almost a must buy.
Date: 2004-01-26 Mario Kart: Double Dash!! This entire game can be summed up in one word: WOW!!! This game was amazing. I bought it about a week ago and I could not stop playing it. Everything is perfect. I haven't played the original Mario Kart but I own Mario Kart 64. Double Dash sweeps the floor with Mario Kart 64. Here are some key factors that you would want to know if you were planning on buying this great game:Graphics: Incredible! There are never any glitches or signs of cheesy graphics by having half of a kart sticking through one of the walls. Most of the time, while your playing the game, you don't realize the graphics because your too busy racing. But if you take a good look at them, you'll realize they are GREAT!!!! Controls: At first, maybe this is just me, but I had a hard time mastering the controls. After a while I got used to them. When you are racing with someone else, the controls aren't that hard because you either have to drive or shoot items. When you are with a computer, it is harder because you have to drive and shoot the items at the same time. Gameplay: The gameplay is awesume! There are many new karts to unlock which takes a while. I think that there are two battle stages to unlock, and there are four characters to unlock, Toad, Toadette, Petey Pirahna, and King Boo. You can also unlock the Special Cup and the All Cup Tour in Grand Prix. Even when you unlock all of these, the game never gets boring. Music: The music in this game is exactly what you would expect from a Mario game. Very happy and preppy music that might get stuck in your head. Overall: Definitely worth paying the fifty bucks to buy it. The only problem is that I had a very hard time buying it. Right now, Amazon is sold out, I had to go to EB Games 3 times before I finally picked up a copy. But if you have an oppurtunity to buy it, DO NOT waste it. You might not get another chance for a while.
Date: 2004-01-25 A GREAT follow up to MK64 This game is one of those games that you will keep playing until the next line of consoles come out. This game is hectic one player and even more hectic if you bring friends over. There is the engine size like in all MK games (50cc, 100cc, 150cc, etc.) the higher the CC the faster you go and the harder the AI is. after choosing your cc you get to choose your characters and your kart. You get two characters per kart each charaacter with a special item (baby mario gets chain chomp, DK gets big banana, etc.). after choosing your characters from the list of 16+ you choose your kart. The karts are sorted by weight class (light, medium, heavy). your characters determine what weight class you are in, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. after that you choose between 4 cups (mushroom, flower, star, and special) each with 4 tracks in them. by getting golds in the cups you unlock new content like extra battle tracks and characters. speaking of battle this is one of the best parts. get your friends together and blow them up in one of three battle types (shine thief, bob-omb blast, and classic balloon battle). in shine thief you want to take control of the shine until the timer reaches zero, get the shine by hitting them with shells, banana peel, or whatever else. in bob-omb blast every question mark block is a bomb and you blow each other up first to 3 or 4 hits wins. In balloon battle you have three balloons and the last one with any balloons wins. Knock your friends out by shooting them with shells to make their balloons fly away. All in all i think this game is one of the best on the gamecube and i recomend it to all gamecube owners.
Date: 2004-01-23 What happened to the BATTLES? Being a HUGE fan of Mario Kart 64, I was excited to purchase the new Gamecube version. But what I couldn't wait to play the most were the BATTLE stages. My friends and I have so much fun on the "64" version so I thought for sure that the new gamecube battle arenas would be even more advanced and exciting to play. Boy, was I wrong.. It is very disappointing. There is really nothing special to the new battle arenas. Why couldn't they make just ONE good arena? I would have been happy.. They are all mainly flat and boring. Double Dash is even more cartoonish than "64". It has very vibrant colors and good graphics. All of the tracks seem short to me. I haven't uncovered any special features yet, so I hope to be surprised to find great shortcuts and added tracks as I continue to play. It is very challenging in 150cc mode and they added the new twist of putting another character to your kart. Overall, I still have lots of fun playing it even though at this point I still like "64" a bit better. The "bonus disc" is fun.. It has little games for you to play and preview..It gives you an idea of what other games you might like to purchase. It is a treat to play the variety of games on the disc. Pick it up with the "bonus" if you are able.
Date: 2004-01-20 This is a good game but not what i expected I love this game it is worth it to buy if u liked the other mario carts but i am dissapointed that the battle on 2 player was not all the great. I liked the other mario cart better then this one and i still play it till this day. Good game should buy it if you own a gamecube.
