SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition Review (continued)

Date: 2007-08-10 More of the same...reliable fun with few new surprises If you are looking for something brand new from this edition, you may be disappointed. The game play is still enjoyable and fun. If you like what they've put out before, then you'll probably like what this game has to offer. If you are looking for a substantial departure from their previous games, you'll likely be disappointed.
Date: 2007-08-09 Great game but crashes every so often I've been a fan of the Sim City series since I played the SNES port of the original game many years ago. The 4th release of the series is everything i expected it to be and then some more, but sadly, the game crashes on a rather regular basis, no warnings, no error messages, nothing. You go from looking at the game to your desktop in a couple of seconds and for no apparent reason, making the whole experience annoying at best and infuriating at worse (ever had your city growing nicely to suddenly lost your last hour without even a warning?) Even if I'd love to give the game 5 stars, it saddens me that Maxis or EA or whoever was responsible, decided to release the game in such a buggy condition. Still, if somehow you manage to run the game without a glitch, I wholeheartedly recommend it.
Date: 2007-08-09 My Favorite of all SimCity's I played the original Simcity when it first came out. This was back when Radio Shack had the Tandy computer. This is by far my favorite. The graphics are wonderful, the management while its not overly oppressive, it definately sims what running a city is like. In this one you get both SimCity4000 and the expansion Rush Hour. YOu can create sprawling metropolis or small villages by creating a region. What makes this game so much fun is the amount of thinking, urban planning, management, and urban revitalization is unprecedented. Placing zones of either residential, commerical, and Industrial the heart of your city planning. You must layout transportation, and the sims will come. As you zoom in closer to your city you can see it come alive. My only peeve is that I wish another expansion would come out, this is certainly a gem. Im aware of EA coming out with what seems to be Simcity's replacement and new lease on life. Many people are shouting that Maxis is not in on this one. What concerns me is seeing the pictures it looks like its City Life's cousin and you plop buildings down and not the zones. I happen to like zoning which is true to making a city. I was hoping that traffic lights would get an update and the use of turn signals (red arrow), and placing traffic signals. It would be nice to change the timings (see bags over the new lights that are about to be installed), add more signals, put them on the poles or long wire that we see everywhere, have traffic truly following the signals. Added realism can see traffic meters added, parking spaces, real parking lots, police pulling over speeders and running red lights, and getting into the police car and pulling people over or writing tickets for expired meters or stickers. The toll booth was a nice addition but when you see a toll booth its sprawled over many lanes and has gates and flashing lights. The airports need more action and realism. Sports stadiums should create a lot more traffic. I wish MAxis didnt give up on updates. Their was one update, more than 4 years ago. Simcity with todays computers would of benefited a small upgrade to allow the use of dual core processors which have dropped in price, and higher end video cards power to lift its capabilities. Cities lag badly when it gets bigger. All in all, I love this game. If you like city management/building, city creation, the opportunity to create a region from scratch, along with transportation meccas, then this is an absoulte. For $15 this is a steal!
Date: 2007-07-18 My favorite PC Game This game is awesome. So much fun to build and manage cities and a region. You start with an empty piece of land and some money. A while later that land will have turned into a sprawling metropolis. You manage the cities funds for things like airports and police coverage. Set bus stops and place subway lines. Build bustling city centers and sprawling suburbs around them. You are God. Send a tornado to destroy your city. Do whatever you want. With websites like Simtropolis, this game is made even greater. Buy this game and your eyes will open to a whole new world of fun.
Date: 2007-07-16 Not only for fans of this series I bought this game for 14 bucks and it is worth at least 5 times that price. If I simply take the time I spend with this game it might be the best value ever for a computer game!
Okay, you must love this kind of games. If you more into First-person shooters this game is NOT for you. But if you like micro-management and work for hours on something to make it work (or even a bit more perfect) this is for you.
I have to say that I didn't like SC4 when it was released but with the "Rush hour" upgrade which is included here it is totally worth its money. It seems like lots of little things were changed to make this game more enjoyable. Now you can take on little missions to earn some additional money if your city is not doing that well ;-)
All together a game which keeps you busy for hours! For real Sim City fans who loved SC3000 it is worth a look now. Unfortunately you can't take your old Cities with you :-(
