Warcraft III Battle Chest Review (continued)

Date: 2007-09-27 Great RTS to start the 21st century Expectations were high when Blizzard announced that they were developing a sequel to Warcraft 2. As if that game wasn't popular enough, the last strategy game they made was the legendary Starcraft. Well, Blizzard didn't disappoint, with Warcraft 3 being one of the best in the recent batch of real-time strategy games.
Unlike Starcraft, Warcraft 3 is much more focused on battle tactics and unit control ("micro") rather than base and unit production management. The introduction of the heroes is a unique twist on RTS gameplay, with the result that Warcraft 3 doesn't really play like any other strategy game on the market.
The single-player campaign is incredibly well designed, and the hero mechanic is uniquely suited for this purpose. Blizzard starts to add tremendous variety to the missions in the expansion pack, with the result that the campaign, though lengthy, never gets monotonous. The art design and graphics are beautiful and vibrant, while keeping system requirements at a reasonable level (unlike many RTSes currently on the market).
The longevity of this product really lies in the multi-player, though. The automated matchmaking system on battle.net does a great job of matching you with players of similar skill, but there are also a tremendous number of custom made maps developed by players using the Warcraft 3 map editor ("Defense of the Ancients", or "DotA", being the most popular one). While this game is not as strategically deep as Starcraft, it is still a blast to play, and if you enjoy strategy games, you shouldn't pass up this one.
Date: 2007-09-11 Hours of Orc Fun! Warcraft III will keep you engaged for hours. I had a great time playing this game. Every campaign poses a unique challenge. If you prefer more complexity in managing your populace, I would recommend the Lords of the Realm series of games.
Date: 2007-09-07 !!!WOW!!! Single Player..CHECK
Multi Player...CHECK
Endless Online Play for free with a a deidcated mod community...CHECK!
I love Blizzard! Yes I am a fanboy, but only because they do pcgaming right!
I have played WC3 FT for over 3years, with no end in sight (well Stracraft2 may dethrone it). Initially I played the single player game and its gameplay, story, images, effects were amazing. After a while a friend of mine invited me to battle.net within WC3 to battle online. That's where all the trouble started :o)
There are hundreds of games online for free with a huge player base if you want to multi play the classic Warcraft build town, send troops, creep game. This was fun for a while and I mastered what I could. Then I discovered the custom maps. DoTA, Line Towewr wars, Rosk, Line Hero wars, TEch wars...endless mods all for free each with a play anytime community. I haven't ever had to wait that long for a game that I wanted to play.
Get this game, not only for the single player but for the endless online play that will rock your socks!
Well I am off to DoTA!
Date: 2007-09-06 Great Game Frozen Throne is a great expansion to a great strategy based game. Only problem I had with this game is that I wasn't able to play a custom game online with my friend. Other than that the online play is good and the campaign mode is great fun.
Date: 2007-08-22 Welcome....to the story of Warcraft I play World of Warcraft the MMORPG and have a blast, however, it wasn't until recently it finally clicked with me that the Warcraft universe has this HUGE ongoing backstory (like Star Wars and the EU does). So naturally, I felt that in order to really enjoy WOW, I needed to know the whole story....enter Warcraft III.
With the help of Wikipedia and the game manual, I learned alot of what happened in the books and in Warcraft I and II, which is kind of dated looking so I didn't bother. Seems Warcraft III is the best place to really jump in the Warcraft universe.
First, the game is addictive, and very very fun and challenging. The story and characters are amazing and very likable, I can so see this as one big movie. The cut scenes are dramatic and made my adrenelin pump and even my head shake in disbelief at the actions of certain characters.
Gameplay is smooth and easy to get into, however like any stategy game, it takes brains. There was more than one time I had to reload from being cocky and getting my butt handed back to me.
Graphics aren't exactly outdated yet, I love the look and feel of the warcraft universe, and the voice acting can be at times very excellent, and cheesy. For example, some characters seem like the actors are skinny, office, dev dorks trying to sound tough and menacing, lol, but overall it's good.
For you parents, there IS some language in the game which took me completely by surprise. Nothing too awful nasty, but for people like me even the small ones can make you cringe and feel as though it was kind of out of place and un-necessary, even forced at times just for the characters to seem tough or something.
Again, amazing story and gameplay...WOW has taken on a whole new level of fun for me now that I know key characters, locations, and what events have taken place in the past in certain cities. Overall, it makes the experience just that much more rewarding and emersive for you RP'ers or fastasy buffs who like to be involved in a good fantasy adventure.
