Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker Review (continued)
More User Submitted Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker Reviews
Date: 2006-12-16 If you're so immature that you can't handle cartoony graphics... ...that's a real shame. Because this game is great. The gameplay is improved from Ocarina (a little too easy though), the soundtrack is better, and the graphics are a delight to look at. Twilight Princess on the other hand, has boringly typical graphics, a MIDI soundtrack, and no notable gameplay improvements. Don't get me wrong though, that's a great game as well, it just isn't up to par with other Zelda games for my money.
Date: 2006-11-28 Very good Zelda game It is a very cool game! Not to hard and the graphics are amazing! Not realistic but not fake either. I got this game a while ago and never play my other games because I love this one so much!
Date: 2006-11-27 Classic Zelda feel, a tad bit repetitive Back in E3 (2001 maybe?) Nintendo showed off a technical demo for the GameCube, and one of the scenes they used was a scene of a realistic Link dueling with Ganondorf. People were ecstatic, plain and simple. So when Nintendo, with what seemed like a last minute change, dumped the realistic look to the latest installment of the Zelda series to a Cell-Shaded theme, people weren't too pleased. Most responses were mainly negative, due to the fact that the Zelda they were waiting for seemed to have been snatched away.
But rest assure, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is a true Zelda classic.
The majority of the negative feedback received by this game was focused on the graphics. Judging by the reviews posted by my peers on this site, people just don't seem to understand that photorealistic graphics are not necessarily "good" graphics. To defend Nintendo with their decision once again, they decided to go for the cell-shaded look to add a layer of emotion not previously possible from any other graphical style. Yes, Link does indeed look like a Powerpuff girl, but deep down, you feel connected to the characters, rather than just looking at static, yet realistic, NPCs. Not until Twilight Princess will Nintendo (or anyone for that matter) be able to pull off the level of depth each character possesses visually than the way Wind Waker did.
I am not going to say that this game is completely flawless. I to was very irritated with the constant sailing from island to island. Also, the game was a bit easy when compared to Ocarina of Time, but felt like every other Zelda game: Top notch.
In terms of the control scheme, it is the exact same thing as Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. If you know what I am talking about, you will be pleasently surprised.
I won't really go into much depth because it seems the people who rated the game highly did a good job at describing the positive and negative aspects. As for those who rated it very lowly, you seem to be missing the point entirely. Photo realistic graphics do not always equal good graphics. There is a fine line there that some cannot see.
PS: If you are going to write a review, you will be taken more seriously if you use proper punctuation, capitization, and just write a better review than "OMG GRAFIX SUXXX I DO NOT WANT TO REED!!!!!!!11!! I WANT TO KILL STUFF!!!111one!!!" You just sound like a total idiot.
Date: 2006-11-26 One of the Best Zelda Games Yet! I know that you have read all those nice little things about wow! This game is sooo cool! kind of stuff. I have my own reasons that I think this is a good game. For people who have played the ocorina of time, you know the warping that you can do there? It is on this game too. They have a feature called the picto box which is really fun to play with. The best thing about this game are the little things. If you shoot a Moblim with a fire arrow, they dance around with their pants on fire. If you spy on people you can watch them do some of the strangest things. For moms serching for a gift for their son/daughter (yes I am female) who is over 7 this is a fantastic gift. (No bad stuff other than a little puff af smoke when you defeat the monster) I recomend this game for both Zelda Lovers and first time Zelda people.
Date: 2006-11-22 The best series in history. What can you really say about the Legend of Zelda? I have been playing the Zelda series since I was 8 years old, and I've never gotten tired of it. Ocarina of Time is, without a doubt, the greatest game ever created.
I LOVED Ocarina of Time. I'm a true blue fan of that game, and I didn't think I'd like the new graphics and style of WW, but I love it. It's the little details like when Link gets out of water, his footsteps are wet. Things like that. The detail is superb. Dungeons and bosses are as challenging and fun as ever, and the graphics are just incredible. In fact, I love the "cartoon-ish" feel to it. It's a little more ubeat and fun, and not as dark as others.
5 stars out of 5. I played this game instead of writing a 15 page research paper, forcing myself to have to write it in 4 days, but it was all worth it. This game is amazing and addictive.
My only complaint (and one that other people seem to note as well) is that the world is huge and it takes quite a bit of time to travel(via boat) from area to area. It gets a little tedious and sometimes a wee bit frustrating. That said, the game is hugely entertaining and I absolutely adore it. I'm playing it again for a second run through(and, when you play the game again after beating it once, there are little differences and changes in your second game! fun!).
If you loved OoT, you'll love this one too, trust me.
