Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Review (continued)
More User Submitted Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Reviews
Date: 2006-08-13 The Force is strong with this one. After playing this game for 16 days, (I finally finished it after 91 hours of game play), I now understand why this game won over 40 game of the year awards, it is just-that-good! Try not to breeze your way right through it though, or you'll miss a lot of the wonderful things that this game can bring to your gaming experience. Take your time, and enjoy it. Not your average type of game where you just mash the button to attack an enemy, this game requires you to think befor you do things. It really is a fun game to play. And overall, that's what playing games are all about... having fun!
Date: 2006-07-31 Lucas Arts at it's best! First point, thankfully this wasn't directed by good 'ole George. The setting of the game is 4,000 years before the Star Wars: A New Hope, and a few years after the devastating Mandolorian Wars. This a truly fun Role-Playing Game (RPG) including interesting characters- everone of them with unique histories (including yours), an almost flawless turn-based combat system, a sinister universe dominating villian, ect. At this point, the graphics aren't the greatest, but are still nothing to scoff at. There are some bugs with the dialogue and movies, but nothing serious. The music, produced by the gaming-world famous Jeremy Soule is amazing and completely allows the player to become immersed with gameplay. Basically, every action (mostly dialogue) has a good (Light Side), Neutral, and bad (Dark Side) outcome. For some reason, the dark side way of going about things is more fullfilling.... Many movie seen force powers (lightning, force choke) as well as some powers known to Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) are included keeping you on your toes while playing. *Spoiler Alert* Incredilby (it is a small universe) all of the characters you meet that become apart of your party have to do with your past self. *Over* At two parts of your journey, once in the begining and once more a fourth of the way in, the player gets to choose the class of his/her character. First time around, what kind of grunt of the Old Republic's are you? and second, what kind of SUPER-ALL-POWERFUL-KICK-A**-BITE-YOUR-HEAD-OFF Jedi are you?
One of the best XBox games ever. period. and one of the better RPGs out there as well.
Date: 2006-07-26 Very addictive - just like a good game should be This was a well put-together game that was lots of fun to play. You'll want to play it again as soon as you finish it. I'm not a big Star Wars fan but I was nuts for this game.
This was the first RPG I ever tried and once I got over the fact that "I was not doing the fighting", I really liked it.
I highly recommend this game UNLESS you already have a weak relationship with your wife/kids (who you won't be seeing much of) or if your boss hates you and is waiting for you to come in late and bleary-eyed so he can pink-slip you.
Date: 2006-07-10 Forget the movies - This game defines Star Wars greatness. Story (10/10):
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic puts you in a world of complete bliss and utterly fantastic awe. This is not just a shoot-em-up game, for within the millions of pixelated characters lies a story. A story with jaw-dropping, mind-blowing twists and turns and conclusions awaiting. Choose your path, for the first time, you can choose your own destiny rather than the creators.
This game is not just one plot, nor is it a mindless adventure trekking the whereabouts of the middle of nowhere looking for purpose. No, this game is many a quests and riddles, illusions and games inside to keep the gamers on their tippy-toes at all times.
Starting out as a mysterious rebel who does not know his/her own past, fight or peacefully sneak your way through the depths of several planets, each carrying many people with many stories. You may help these people, you may be there savior and deny a reward, or you may bash their helpless heads into their skulls to create your path to the dark side. All the while making the venture across native lands toward beoming a Jedi, encounter friends, enounter foes and convert them to friends if you ever so wish. It doesn't matter, because in the end it's only you facing the evil sith lord, toe to toe, lightsaber to lightsaber.
Gameplay (9/10):
The fighting system is somewhat random, but not entirely, you can choose to create a concrete combat fighter or a wizard casting spells such as lighting, wind, life draining, lightsaber throwing, etc. Many different various skills such as stealth, persuasion, even computer hacking and lockpicking (Sort of).
You can stay close using lightsabers, one in each hand or a double-bladed one. Or you stray afar using blaster rifles and pistols. You have many compainions, droids, jedis, dark side mercenaries and wookies, each with a charming, dramatic, or brutal life story, which will only be concluded as the game furthers on.
Very impressive dialogue and screenwriting, graphics and realism are also mediocre.
I can guarantee, with the low $20 price, this game will give you hours of fun, each day, for at least a month. And trust me, when that month is up, you will not want to get rid of it, you will get the urge to play it again because once you start this game you are hooked on a long-term engagement.
The only thing I find wrong with this game is it's sequel.
Pros:
~ Excellent sound, effects, dialogue, screenplay, scenery, designing and story writing. ~ Hundreds of weapons, armor, with belts, gloves, arm bands, implants and masks to further increase skills. ~ Hundreds of side quests with extravagant rewards and conclusions that will keep you in awe all day long. ~ No wondering from world to world in search of plots, they are usually easy to find but challenging (not boring) to accomplish. ~ No matter what, you can always play the game a different way, so you would be just beginning your quest as soon as you beat the game. ~ Neat little area from xbox live downloadable content, which can open up another plot and give you VERY nice weapons and two new lightsaber colors. (Turquoise, orange) ~ You can change the overall game difficulty, it's default setting is medium.
Cons:
~ No type of multiplayer games in any circumstance. It's surprising they didn't make a co-operative option. ~ Sometimes annoying loading transitions, can take maybe 10-15 seconds at most. I'd advise having some music handy if it's your 2nd or 3rd time through the game.
Date: 2006-07-06 fun for a rpg fun, lot of game hours, and a sweet story. The lightsabor combat gets boring for me killing the same looking dark jedi. I like how you can be good or evil. Me, I was good the whole time. I also like when you are good but still get darkside powers. Sweet game for 2003.
