Lock On: Modern Air Combat Review
User Submitted Lock On: Modern Air Combat Reviews
Date: 2008-09-05 Excellent game, if you have the time to learn it... I would say that this is a fun game if you have the time and patients to learn all the different controls and operations entailed in the game. This is a very realistic game, and requires some knowledge of what some of the commands do. Otherwise, the game is awesome. The graphics are superb (unfortunately, I have a bad video card that struggles with loading and playing the game). But, if you have a state-of-the-art graphics card, you should enjoy the unbelievable graphics this game has to offer. GOOD GRAPHICS CARD PLUS SKILL = THE BEST COMBAT FLIGHT SIM EVER!!!
Date: 2008-06-15 Poorly made, terrible controls, Lock On: Modern Air Combat (LOMAC) is easily the worst combat sim made in the past 10 years, with awful controls, bad graphics and a rushed release it is the absolute epitome of lazy game design on a budget. You're much better off buy Wings Over Europe or any other Thirdwire sim as they have a better modding community and a very good mission designer/campaign system.
Date: 2008-03-27 Flight-Sim Enthusiasts Rejoice I have been searching for the most realistic Flight Simulator game out there for about two years now. I have tried Microsoft Flight Simulator X and been disappointed by its lack of combat. I have tried a few WWII flight sims, but those are not quite what I was looking for. The Ace Combat series was the only game that I found which had jets shooting down jets, yet their arcade-style and unrealistic quantities of ammo let me down.
Lock-On: Modern Air Combat (LOMAC) is the most realistic jet flight simulator that I could find, and it came at an incredible price. There are only 6 planes available to fly (technically 8 or 9, but that's because there are different country variations of the Mig-29) so that's an annoyance, but it will take you just about a month and a half or longer to perfect flying just one of these planes.
The impossibility of mid-air refueling, (i.e. it's quite challenging)the struggle of carrier landings, and the ever-prominent challenge of choosing the right radar for your target all make this game one of the most realistic flight sims out there.
I encourage this game for anyone who enjoys the challenge of realistic flight-simulation.
Final statement the campaigns are a tad short (about 7-10 missions), but you can make your own. Having only 2 US planes is an annoyance (A-10 and F-15) along with only 1 carrier plane (SU-33), but I guess can live with that. The online community is quite small, too, (16 players online at this moment, 1 PM) but there is almost always someone there. Finally, if this gets boring you can order LOMAC Flaming Cliffs the successor, or LOMAC Gold which has both the original and Flaming Cliffs for about $20.

Date: 2008-01-28 You had better be a real pilot to play this game! I purchased The Ultimate collection with Lock On being one of three games in the set! I was interested in Lock On as I already own Pac. Fighters and IL2 Sturmovik. I must say the game "could have been super" if they didn't make everything so complicated. There are many many key combinations to select radar, air to air and ground missles, locking on targets etc! Every time I select radar, I loose my ability to control speed of the aircraft with my joystick!! Very frustrating, you'd better be ready for some "figuring out" if you intend to play this game!
