An all-time classic
One of the top 5 Nintendo games of all-time. It's worth every penny. Simple, yet fun to play. A great storyline. Challenging as hell (it took me three years or so to beat Tyson). Good grahpics and sound for the time (1987 game). If you like boxing, and have an old Nintendo kicking around, and SOMEHOW don't own this game, you need to buy it.

TKO!
Before he was convicted of sexual assault, before he beat his wife half to death, and before he bit Evander Hollyfield's ear, Mike Tyson signed a deal with Nintendo to make a video game that pits a wiery-looking teenager nick-named Little Mac against (in order of appearance) Glass Joe, Von Kaiser, Piston Honda, Don Flaminco, The Hippo King, Great Tiger, Bald Bull, Piston Honda again, Soda Popinski, Don Flaminco again, Bald Bull again, Mr. Sandman, Super Macho Man, then eventually Mike Tyson. The bad news: You're not Mike Tyson, you're Little Mac. Fortunately, you have a chubby coach in your corner with a never-say-die attitude and a shiny pink bike (who says gay people have no place in video games?).
So while the game isn't 2-players and you can't fight as Mike Tyson, it's still one of the best boxing video games you'll ever play.

One of the best of NES
Mike Tyson's Punch Out was a big stepping stone for some of the earlier Nintendo games for a few reasons. It had better graphics than some other games at the time. It was one of the first Fighting games on the NES (wrestling games not counted) and it was fun.

You are Little Mac and your job is to be the best boxer in the world. How? Well, beat Iron Mike Tyson of course! You go through the game fighting many excellent (yet fictional) characters on your way to the top. You fight opponents such as Glass Joe, King Hippo, Mr. Sandman and Super Macho Man.

There were a few things I really liked about this game. One, I couldn't get tired of it. For me, that's a very strong dimension to a game. Second, no opponent fought exactly the same and each fight was very individual. You had to memorize each fighter's style and moves to win. And last, getting to Mike Tyson was a task. It wasn't easy and there was nothing you could do about it besides get better.

The one thing that I didn't like about this game was that, in my opinion, Mike Tyson wasn't that bad to deal with. Seriously, if you could dodge the 1st Round's 1:30 of Tyson's blistering 1-hit knockdown punch, you could beat him easily by the early 3rd Round.

I seriously thought that Iron Mike was going to be hardcore as hell and for me, he just wasn't what I expected. Granted yes I wouldn'r say the same to his face in fear of getting bitten but still, vast improvements to Tyson as the last character would have added another challenge. I guess for myself and a lot of other gamers was, if you could get past Super Macho Man, you could beat Tyson. That's why I'm glad they made that improvement in Super Punch Out on SNES.

Anyway, you should still get this no matter what level gaming you're at because you'll enjoy it. Have fun!
