Date: 2008-09-16 must own jewel of dreamcast this game is still fun, and this version is way superoir to the plastation version, graphics, sound and mostly everything, and even better with a VGA Box, its a must own!

Date: 2001-09-18 A pleasant surprise King of Fighters: Evolution brings new life to an annual series that was getting more stale with each new edition. While it may look like any other King of Fighters game, Evolution adds some new gameplay elements to shake things up. Most notable is the switch from a 3-person team to a 4-person team (technically 3 plus a striker or helper character which can be changed). This gives your team more flexibility to match up better against other teams.Evolution adds a few new characters and for the most part, they're not lame. The new characters are yet another welcome relief from the same old characters you're used to seeing year after year. However, one of the most important things they seemed to have fixed is the controls. Evolution feels far more responsive than Dream Match '99 and moves are easier to pull off. While Evolution doesn't move like Street Fighter III: Third Strike, it's a vast improvement over the stiff as a board control of DM '99. Overall, a good game that might mark the end of another SNK franchise.
Date: 2001-09-15 Great Fighting Game Between this and Last Blade 2, I'm rediscovering how fun SNK fighters can be. I picked up KOF '99 for PSX (the PSX version of this DC KOF Evolution), and quite enjoyed it. So much so, that I traded it in and bought the--hopefully--notably better DC version. Very much worth it, in fact. The PSX version has a couple of non-gameplay extras, such as a nice art/sketches section that DC does not. But the game itself is far better on DC. Get this, the backgrounds on the DC are FULL 3D and often quite arresting. The PSX version uses static backgrounds based on those 3D backgrounds. BIG difference! Also, sound samples and music are crystal clear here, muffled on PSX. Control is better. Then there are many Extra support characters to "buy" in this version, and two nice Survival/Time Trial modes. And I don't have enough time to extrapolate on the great fighting system, numerous endings (ranging from humourous to somewhat serious). Fighting fans really shouldn't pass this up, and must pass on the bargain PSX version. The difference is surprising.
Date: 2001-06-20 KOF:Evo - U.S. version versus Japanese! Not BAD! I've been collecting the home versions of SNK's King of Fighters Series for sometime now on the PSX, PC emulation and DC. Agetec's translation of SNK's KOF 99 is phenomenal! I have the Japanese PS version of KOF 99 which I obtained a week after launch and played myself sick on it. I felt pretty apprehensive on getting a game I was no longer so enthusiastic about. Was I wrong! I enjoyed the perfect animation, music that played continously throughout the entire match (on the PSX, music would re-start in different places everytime it loaded), KOF's classic gameplay, the much nastier A.I. for Krizalid (in comparison to the PSX version) and best of all, the Extra Strikers. Daimon, Chizuru, and especially Yamazaki and Billy Kane returns as extra strikers giving me back all the characters I missed from 97 and 98. They even appear during the cinematic sequences as part of your team heightening the illusion of their comeback, never mind if they can only be used as Strikers. Fio from Metal Slug and Alfred from an obscure PSX Fatal Fury release are refreshing additions. Now for the bad news. This game doesn't have the blood spatters present in it's Japanese counterpart. (However, I personally don't care for blood, present or not.) Second, Whip's Gun Move has been removed. Although it causes little or no damage in the original KOF 99, there are problems whenever the CPU Whip throws you. Normally, it would be followed with her gun move, but in this case she stands still opening her for a combo. Annoying. Now for the good news! It's been recently discovered that the secret strikers, Gai and Sho, unobtainable in the Japanese version except through linking the game with a Neo-Geo pocket, can be obtained in the U.S. version WITHOUT it. A code now exists for obtaining these strikers although the requirements can be rather stringent. (Consult ... for the full info) I haven't fully verified it since I've yet to fulfill the exact requirements but a lot of people seem to be acknowledging the code's authenticity. Secondly, Extra Strikers can be powered up to level 3...I'm not sure of this but someone mentioned before that the Japanese version can only reach level 2. Personally, I love this game...even after billions of plays on the PS version. I though the enhancements wouldn't be worth it...but they are...
