Jet Grind Radio Review
User Submitted Jet Grind Radio Reviews
Date: 2008-10-09 A hidden gem along with the Dreamcast This game, like the console it was released on went under the radar among gamers. For those of you who have played the game know it pushed the dreamcasts capabilities to the max and was a fun-filled game for anyone to enjoy.
Graphics: The developers of the game went with cell-shading which was probably the best thing they did for the game. The characters and the way the game was done jumped out at you.
Storyline: Actually pretty decent, you play as a member of the GG's fight the main villian, Gouji Rokakku (or something like that), who is bent on taking over Japan using other street gangs and the cops to take you out. You can choose between Tab, Beat or Gum in the beginning and unlock more characters as the story developes. After you beat the game and get jet ratings in side-stuff in the game you can play other events as a member of Poison Jam, Love Shockers, Noise Tanks and even your dog Potts.
Controls: Its easy, you pick up the controller and start moving around-that simple. Doing grafitti at first can be tricky but once you get it down its very simple and fun (something they unfortunately took out in the second game). Your character moves really slow but you can press a button to help sprint you along but doesn't last to long.
Levels: Levels are easy to navigate and all the grafitte and cell shading is candy to the eye. One thing my friend and I did would go around the areas looking to see if we could find rails and boards and stuff to do tricks on and make circles around parts of the level for maximum points.
Music: The music in this game is incredible and you'll eventually start singing along with it and not even know it. There are a few songs that will make you go nuts but its only one or two.
Overall this game is fun, easy to pick up and an overall joy to play. I can't think of anything bad the game really does. It gets an easy 5 out of 5 stars from this longtime fan.
Date: 2008-03-13 Fun and addictive gameplay, except for one flaw... The game all in all is fun! Graphics are awesome, and the gameplay makes you want to play it without a break. However, one thing made me a little ticked...trying to get away from the cops. That's about the only pain in the butt there is to the game, but it does get your heart pumping. It's one of the Dreamcast's greatest games! I also suggest: Shenmue, Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure and Skies of Arcadia. If you don't buy this game, you're missing out.
Date: 2007-10-26 Stylish, But Not That Fun... When I purchased my SEGA Dreamcast not too long ago, the first game I had in mind was Jet Grind Radio. Word of mouth said it was a stylish, fun, innovative game and well worth the purchase.
Well, that's only partially true.
See, while this game is very cool and stylish (with nice cel-shaded graphics and interesting character design, as well as fitting music and sound of acceptable - though not exceptional - quality), and undeniably innovative (the spray paint mechanics are original), it's just not that fun. Here's why.
When I started playing, I was expecting something far more fast-paced. But your character moves at a disappointingly-slow speed. Also, the spray painting system, while fun at first, becomes boring and somewhat irritating. It's no fun to have to repeat the same actions over and over again, and nothing is worse than being shot at while your in the middle of tagging a building or sidewalk.
I would only recommend this game to someone who was interested in studying its cool and bold art style, or a die-hard SEGA fan, but to everybody else: borrow it if you have the chance (assuming you have a friend with a Dreamcast). If you can't borrow it, Just forget about it.
Date: 2007-01-18 Good game....its a must play This game is hands down one of the best games i've ever played. Sega dreamcast may be dead, but the games still live on. This game is a definite must for anyone who owns one. Whether its the cel shaded graphics, ingenius story line, or creative gameplay, this game owns.
Date: 2005-11-08 3/5 First of all I'm going to say this game is awesome I would have given it a 5 but there are a few little problems I had with it. I'm still going to say that if you have a Dreamcast go try and find this game. If you don't have a Dreamcast but you see a copy of Jet Grind Radio and you have a few extra bucks pick up the system and this will be one of the only games you will need in fact so far it's the only game that I own.(I bought it for $10 Canadian and I'm not sure what the exchage rates are right now.)
