The best game, PERIOD!!!
the reason i like the game so much is because you are in more control of what you do and there's a lot more suspense and thrills.
Ryo Hazuki (the main charecter you control) is on an adventure to find lan-di. Lan-Di murdered Ryo's father Iwao Hazuki. Ryo and his adopted brother fuki-san witness the murder and try to stop it but lan-di is jut too strong.
the game is so cool because you can drive a forklift and a motorcycle. also you get into streetfights that are freestyle. QTE (quick time event) is a style of fighting, when a button shows up on the screen you hit it in the time given, if you don't you might get flipped, punched, or kicked. but don't worry, if you screw up you get to do it again.
At the end of the game you get in a freestyle fight with 80 people at a time!

Shenmue is the best game I ever played in my life!
It's a addicting game that when you start you can not stop. it was given to me by a dear friend that died the next day. even though I was to sad to play anything I played it and its graphics were amazing, better than a PS2's,Xbox's,or Gamecube's graphics. The gameplay was so fun than I ever imagened and the sound was perfict, fighting is so fun in that game there is so much good stuff in that game that I rank it number 1! but there is only one mistake the person who made it should of changed: the voice throw ins, I herd one that I remembered sounded a little bad, the one about the girl and the cat it the first day you might here. But this game made me forget obout the sorrow of the friend I lost, and made feel good. there is so much good stuff about this game but I can't tell you everything about this game, I want you to enjoy it, so buy it! I highly recomend it. ps: but not for kids under 13 years of age because of language, drugs and alcohal, and violence.

The Best Dreamcast Title
Although this game has been released for a while, and I have played this like a year ago, it is still an extrodanry game. I love the little town and how you can talk to any person at all. Also I love the GTE and free battles. I also liked the storyline. That is what drew me into the world that Ryo Hazuki lives in. The music goes from cheery(in the daytime) to almost unnerving (in the nighttime). Also the different array of moves that Ryo learns is awesome because there are just so many! I highly recommened this game to owners of Dreamcast's.

a classic that defined a system
Shenmue is an exceptional game, even for the dead Dreamcast system. This is one of the few games that makes the Dreamcast a must-have. The actual game play itself may be confusing at first, but you get used to it after playing. The battle system is interesting as well, and the "QTE" system allows for timing based manuevers.
Another thing that sets this game apart from other games are the graphics. While not as clean as graphics from say the PS2, Gamecube, or Xbox, they stand as some of the best I've ever seen. The level of detail in the game is extensive for any game, and beautifully rendered, taking advantage of the processor. Load tmes can be a slight annoyance at times, but you get used to them. The timeof day constantly changes as well, opening up new experiences for you to explore, with different people showing up at different times.
I only found a few cons for this game. The first is that while some characters are rendered with great care, some, (such as the main character) don't seem to have as much quality as other characters do. (Some characters have extremely realistic faces, and I've noticed a few where their hair is realistic, veins on their hands, wrinkles, awesome rendered clothing etc.) Some of the QTE gets annoying after a while as well. The great bummer the one that gives this game a 4 star instead of 5, is the voice overs. In this day and age where voice overs are used constantly in video games, you have to make sure they are good, or they become constantly irritating. The voice overs in shenmue are like those from a bad anime dub over, and there are even times when it sounds as though there is mike distortion in the backround from the voices. I wish they had kept the original japanese audio track, like they did in say, Sonic Adventure.
Then again, I say that about any game that has been brought here from Japan. (although this problem is somewhat offset by the fact that you can skip dialogue!) Anyway, it is still a good game regardless, so if you like what you hear, go ahead and asnag a copy.

Incredible/Amazing experience
Shenmue is more than just a game, it's an experience. The graphics are incredible, the music and sounds are just as good, and the story pulls you in. It's true that the game is kind of slow-paced at times...but this isn't a fighting game or a sports game...so you're going to be disappointed if you expect it to be your usual pulse-pounding, action-packed game. The only other problem I had with the game was that the voices for the characters were pretty bad, especially the minor characters that populate the game. Even Ryo sounded boring and stiff most of the time. But to sum it all up, this game is amazing -- it has everything you could want -- graphics, music, controls, and a good storyline. I've finished twice already, and I'll probably go back for more. This is more than just a game, you'll feel as if you're in Japan, circa 1980.
