Date: 2000-06-11 VERY GOOD! A very fun game that you never get tired of playing! The only reason that my rating isn't 5 stars is that some of the bosses are VERY hard to beat.
Date: 2000-05-12 Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure When I first bought my Neo Geo, this was one of the games I was definetly going to buy. I'm glad I did, as this game is brilliant. It takes levels from the Genesis/Mega Drive Sonic games 1, 2 and Sonic and Knuckles, with music from Sonic 3 and the "Sonic World" section on Sonic Jam on the Sega Saturn. These levels are renamed, and redesigned. I also like the way levels get merged. Take Gigantic Angel for instance. This is really the Scrap Brain Zone on Sonic 1, mixed in with the Metropolis zone of Sonic 2. Also, the addition of the puzzle pieces is a nice idea. It adds a lot of replay value to the game. I've had this game for a while now, and I have only managed to complete one puzzle. The Sonic 2 Special Stage is reproduced almost flawlessly, and they are incredibly tough to complete too. I have only managed to get 4 chaos emeralds out of 7. Also the two player game is genius too, as it lets you race agaist a mate. The only real letdown, is the lack of playable characters. You can only play as Sonic. Nevertheless, this is still a great game. If you have a Neo Geo Pocket, and don't already own this game, Buy it! This kept me off SNK vs Capcom MOTM (Match of the Millenium) for weeks! If you have any more money, buy that also, as that has the fighting action of Street Fighter, The King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown and Dalkstalkers all in one. Definetly the best two games on the Neo Geo Pocket at this time. BUY THEM!
Date: 2000-04-30 Decent Old-School Sonic Gaming I was very excited to find that Sonic Pocket Adventure was coming to the Neo Geo Pocket Color...it's just the type of game to reel in the customers, and move the NGPC out of the realm of niche gaming. That said, Sonic Pocket Adventure is a good game, but nothing earth-shattering.First of all, the graphics are merely decent. The NGPC has a 16-bit CPU, so I was expecting Genesis-like visuals. I was disappointed. It resembles the Game Gear version of Sonic. The sound is as expected for a handheld...tinny and repetitive. Control is fairly good, although the NGPC stick's looseness will cost you a life or two. It's also a tad bit easy to finish, as the game saves your progress through the levels. Overall? Doesn't measure up to the Genesis Sonic, but still very good nonetheless. The levels are varied, there are some innovative features, and speed like this is unprecedented for a portable system. If you are at all a fan of 2D Sonic, you should pick this game up.
Date: 2000-04-20 Neo Geo Rules! This is the one game that should get people to purchase the Neo Geo and stop Nintendos monopoly. This is suprisingly just as addictive(if not more) as the classic Genesis version of Sonic 2 years ago. I only wish they would have included a few more levels.(Where's the awesome Mystic Cave?) But other favorites like Casino Night (renamed in NGPC verison)are here and just as good as I remember them. It is also very challenging. Heck, I've been playing for weeks and have only managed to get 2 out of 7 emeralds! The Puzzle pieces that are hidden throughout the game are extremely difficult to find and really add to the replay value of the game. Bottom line: This has to be one of your first three games you must buy for this system. Also recommend Bust-A-Move Pocket and SNK vs. Capcom. My little cousin was real excited about his new game boy. Now he's jealous and already asking where he can get a Neo Geo after playing a game of sonic. Buy this excellent game!
Date: 2000-04-19 My two cents Well, to start this off I'm explaining the reason I'm not giving it a five-star rating. There's really nothing more to this game than the old Sega Genesis hedgehog. Don't really expect anything really special about this game (except the two player mode which is a VERY nice touch). I thought it would be something new and fresh out of the minds of the creators of my favorite hedgehog but alas.. I'm simply tossing this review in for anybody who might think the same way I do about this little game. If the old Sega Genesis Sonic is what you want, GO FOR IT! You'll love it. It was just sort of a let down for me personally. Thanks for your time.
